Porter Hospital has recently established our first hospital-based “Learning Lab” in room 139 on our Medical/Surgical Floor to serve as an educational resource for our staff. The room was formally dedicated in May to long-time Porter nurse, Barb Wagner, in honor of her more than 40 years of outstanding work and dedication to teaching and nursing here in Addison County. Just prior to the official ribbon cutting ceremony for this new staff resource room, Porter’s Chief Nursing Officer Lorraina Smith-Zuba praised Barb and referenced the hundreds of lives she has touched as both a nurse and an educator for Porter Medical Center. The Learning Lab includes two computers for staff education programs and webinars, a Competency Lab (including an area to practice clinical skills), many nursing journals, and large posters with both an Education Calendar and a “Quality Dashboard”. A small plaque honoring Barb was placed in the room on the dedication day, and Barb was joined by staff colleagues, members of the senior leadership team and PMC Board Chair Bill Townsend.
