Syble “Wally” Walterene Engle

BRANDON: Syble “Wally” Walterene Engle, age 84, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at her home in Brandon.
    Mrs. Engle was born in Houston, Mississippi on November 17, 1929. She was the daughter of Lex Byron and Alma Maie (Weed) Wilson. She grew up in Houston where she received her early education and was a 1947 graduate of Houston High School. Following her graduation she struck out touring the United States. On December 23, 1951 she married George Frederick Engle and became a Navy wife. She and her family lived in Tennessee, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Michigan, Ohio, New York City, New Jersey, Colorado, California, Mississippi and Vermont. She had been a resident of Brandon since 2009, moving here from Houston, MS. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and truly loved family gatherings. She was also a social activist, fighting for social justice and equality.
    Surviving are 3 sons; Raymond Anthony Engle of Santa Rosa, CA, George Lex (Marybeth) Engle of Windsor, CA and Timothy Charles (Robin) Engle of Mine Hill, NJ, a sister; Helen Ruth (Bob) Kendall  and a brother Byron (Dottie) Wilson both of Houston, MS, her grandchildren; Sara, Kelsey, Nancy, Merria, Amanda, Timothy, Marisa, Jessamyn and Lilia Mae. 5 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband, George in 1995 and 2 brothers; Lundy Wilson and Jack Wilson and her step-mother, Sydney Wilson.    The memorial service “In Celebration of Her Life” will be held at a later date, at the Macedonia Methodist Church in Hot Air, MS. The graveside committal service and burial will follow the ceremony in the church graveyard.
    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; Rutland Area Visiting Nurse & Hospice, 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701 or to the Brandon Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 232, Brandon, VT 05733.
    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon, VT.

Marvin Richard “Dick” Parker

BRANDON: Marvin Richard “Dick” Parker, age 73, died Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, NH.
    Mr. Parker was born in Brandon on July 20, 1940. He was the son of Marvin and Miriam (Hallett) Parker. Dick grew up in Forestdale and Brandon where he received his early education. He graduated from Pittsford High School, class of 1958. He had worked for many years at Aubuchon Hardware in Brandon and later owned and operated Parker Brother’s Hardware also in Brandon. He afterwards was employed by the Town of Brandon’s Highway Department where he was a grader operator. He later owned his own Excavation & Trucking Company until being forced to retire due to illness.
    Surviving is his son; Neil Parker of Greeley, CO and his daughter Leslie Parker Raffelson of Peetz, CO, his brother John Parker of Leicester and his sisters; Sally Pagano of Brandon and Debra Brown of Hinsdale, NH. 2 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive. He was predeceased by his parents.
    Family & friends are invited to share in a gathering “In Celebration of His Life” which will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 from 5-7 PM, at the Tamarack House Community Room located at Park Village in Brandon. A private burial will take place, at a later date.
