Jim Bushey co-owner of Bourdeau Brothers Feed and Fertilizer in Middlebury is this year's recipient of the Northeast Agribusiness and Feed Alliance Distinguished Service Award. Jim was recognized for his lifelong leadership in the development of northeast agriculture.  The Alliance presented the award to Jim during its annual meeting on March 4th, 2014 in Orlando Florida recently.
The NAFA is a member organization of agribusiness companies serving the agriculture industry throughout the northeast.  “Jim's service to agribusiness supports the Alliances primary goals of advocacy, education and collaboration for the betterment of agribusinesses and farmers,” the organization explained during the awards presentation.  Jim has been a voice for northeast agriculture for more than 50 years.
He has been an advocate for farm families and agricultural business leaders since his college days at UVM and continues to engage in conversations with Vermont legislators about how to continue to bring lawmakers and the agribusiness community together for the betterment of all Vermonters.
Jim supported an annual bus tour, inviting legislators and farmers to spend a day together learning about successes and on-going challenges with agricultural water quality.  He often organizes busloads of farmers to travel to the Vermont Statehouse and appear in committee rooms speaking with Vermont's elected officials.
Jim runs a busy business orbit every day, speaking with policy makers who rely on his experience on issues as diverse as water quality, product registration, and regulation of Ag vehicles.  The NAFA recognizes Jim's “common sense approach that has formed the basis of many rule-making sessions as legislation moves from the statehouse to implementation on the ground,.”  “His willingness to engage in the legislative process creates workable solutions to regulatory requirements,” they concluded during their presentation of this important award.
Since 1974 Bourdeau Brothers has maintained a tradition of personal service to each of the farmers and growers they serve. They have stores on both sides of Lake Champlain in New York and Vermont including Bourdeau Bros.of Middlebury Vermont,  Bourdeau Bros.of Champlain New York, and Bourdeau Bros.Of Sheldon Vermont.  Their product mix includes feed, seed, fertilizer, farm supplies and equipment and dog and cat food.  The company takes pride in their reputation for quality, on time delivery and competitive prices. As the bright red sign states on all of their vehicles, “WE CARE” for your Land and Animals.
The Voice salutes Jim and his management team and staff as Bourdeau Brothers looks forward to another year of support and service to Vermont Agriculture.
