EUGENE GERARD “GENE” LAPLANTE Eugene Gerard “Gene” Laplante, 74, of Baytown, TX was born July 11, 1939, in Cockeysville, MD and went home to be with the Lord on March 9, 2014, with his family by his side. He was a talented and well-loved man by many. He was avid about pursuing his hobbies which included tractor pulling, racing cars, and fishing. Gene also loved music. He could pick up any instrument and master it almost immediately. His family had a local band, which played for many events all over the state of Vermont. He also enjoyed playing on his church praise team later in life. Gene received his Business Real Estate degree from Lee College in Baytown, TX. Gene has lived alternately in Bridport, VT and in Texas since he was four years old. For more than a Decade he operated a shop in Bridport Village called Liberty Enterprises. Gene had influential views on many things. He was chosen as an evaluator for the Boy Scouts of America and was elected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. Gene served as the Vice President of the Webb Historical Society and was chosen to serve on the Lee College Presidential Search Committee. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Dominique Laplante and Thelma Collins Laplante. He is survived by his wife Gwendolyn Bardin Laplante of Baytown; his children and their spouses, Nick and Stephanie Laplante of Mt. Enterprise, TX; Jeff A. and Alison Smith of Sugarland, TX; Mark Morris and Kathy Tullos of Austin, TX; Michael and Teri Pullin of Keller, TX; Pamela and Greg Hinton of Midland, TX; Lowell and Jamie Bell of St. Petersburg, FL; Charles and Coty Bell of Houston, TX; sister, Thelma Denett, of Bridport, VT; twenty-one grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. Gene was a member of The Fellowship at Northside Baptist Church, 300 Cedar Bayou Rd., Baytown, TX 77520, where his memorial service will be Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 11:00a.m. with Rev. Dean Grigsby officiating. In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church Youth Ministries, P. O. Box 97, Mt. Enterprise, TX 75681. Elizabeth Swinington PidgeonLEICESTER: Elizabeth Swinington Pidgeonage 90, passed away on March 9, 2014 at Helen Porter Nursing home in Middlebury, VT. Mrs. Pidgeon was born in Leicester on April 7, 1923. She was the daughter of Norman and Eva (Allen) Swinington. She received her early education in local Leicester Schools and graduated from Brandon High School, Class of 1941. She was married in Brandon on August 14, 1943 to George H. Pidgeon. In her earlier years she had worked as a Bookkeeper at Dutton Lumber Mill in Brandon. She later worked in Resident Records at the Brandon Training School, retiring in 1983 following more than 17 years of service. After her retirement, she ran the family scrap metal and auto sales business in Leicester and retired from that in 2004. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and bird watching. She was a NASCAR Fan and avid Red Sox Fan. Surviving are her two sons, Allen of Leicester; Arlan and wife Donna also of Leicester; three grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving is her companion, Charlie. She was predeceased by her husband George in 1982; son Paul; grandson Paul II; five sisters; Margaret Chatfield, Charlotte Martin, Katherine Delorm, Achsah Jones, Madeline Barker; and five brothers; Allen, Thomas, Francis and (twins) Richard & Robert Swinington. A private burial will take place in Pine Hill Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory, to the Addison County Humane Society, 236 Boardman St, Middlebury, VT 05753 or a charity of choice. At her request there will be no funeral service or calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
