The Seth Warner Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held their monthly meeting at VUHS Saturday, March 8 and welcomed VUHS seniors Jared Birchmore and Stephanie Anderson.  Jared Birchmore was there with his family to receive the DAR Good Citizen Award for his dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in his home, school and community. The Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest were created in 1934 to encourage and reward qualities of active citizenship in an American Democracy. DAR Good Citizens are selected by their teachers and peers, are in the top 25% of their graduating class and lead not only in school but outside as well. Jared Birchmore has led his senior class as president and serves on and off the playing fields of VUHS as a model of a person who helps out. His word is his bond and he is actively involved when facing issues impacting citizens in his community and world.
Stephanie Anderson received honors for her research in the writing of the DAR Columbus Essay Contest.  The contest is sponsored each year and challenges students’ grades 9-12 to research and present the life and historical impact of the journeys of Columbus. Currently at press time it was not known if Stephanie’s essay had placed at the local level but she had won top honors in the local and state.  Stephanie’s essays in years past have won New England’s and placed in top in the nation. The DAR applauded her five year involvement in the program and wished both seniors the best of luck as they pursue their careers in college.
