Laura Grace Ponder

MIDDLEBURY: Laura Grace Ponder, of Middlebury, VT died November 8, 2013, at age 38, from complications resulting from prior cancer treatment. She was being visited and comforted by her family at the time of her death. Laura was born March 2, 1975 in Poughkeepsie, NY to Jim and Cynthia Ponder.
    Laura was raised in New York and North Carolina and graduated from Watts School of Nursing in Durham, NC. She made Vermont her home appreciating the kindhearted and progressive community that welcomed her here.
    As a nurse, Laura found great reward in providing compassionate care, comfort and advice. She especially enjoyed working with new and expecting mothers and their children.  Most recently, Laura worked at Rutland Regional Medical Center and previously at Porter Medical Center and Durham Regional Hospital in North Carolina.
    Laura was an avid reader, home cook and baker.  She enjoyed traveling and spending time by the water. But most of all, she found endless joy and happiness adventuring with her son Ryan, age 9.
    She is remembered with great love by her son; her parents; her siblings, Jennifer Ponder and David Ponder, and their families. She is also survived by her Grandmother, Betty Winn, Aunts, Uncles and their families in Georgia.  Laura’s serenity, graciousness and loyalty affected all that came to know her and she is deeply missed by all.
     Family and friends are welcome to come share stories and celebrate her life at an informal gathering at the Warming Hut near the Memorial Sport Center in Middlebury, VT on Dec. 14th from 11-1pm.
