Frances Towle Boardman

CORNWALL:  Frances Towle Boardman, age 102, died Friday, November 22, 2013, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

   Mrs. Boardman was born in Cornwall on November 14, 1911. She was the daughter of Loyal and Anna (Ringey) Towle. She grew up in Cornwall where she received her early education, graduating from Middlebury High School. She was well known for her many years as a cook at the Cornwall Elementary School. On June 9, 1946 she married Charles Henry Boardman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury. They were lifelong residents of Cornwall. Mr. Boardman predeceased her on December 31, 2012.

   Surviving is her daughter Mary Jane Broughton and her husband Michael of Bristol, 2 grandsons: Benjamin Broughton of Middlebury and Loyal Broughton of Denver, CO, a sister, Zita Riley of Middlebury, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother William Towle and 3 sisters: Rena Willson, Louise Wilson and Winifred Wolcott.

   Frances will long be remembered for her love of family and friends.  Her kitchen door was always open and guests would have ample choices of homemade treats to enjoy, the most popular being her donuts.  She was an active supporter of the Cornwall Fire Department, and other local clubs and organizations. In thanks for her contributions to her town, the Town of Cornwall honored her on her 100th birthday, proclaiming the day as “Frances Towle Boardman Day”.   She was also, a passionate Red Sox fan, rarely missing a televised game.

   The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at HPHRC for their warmth, care and love.  Also, Dr. Fifield, Dr. Cope, Dr. Rouse, the staff from Addison County Home Health & Hospice, her home caregivers, our family and neighbors who helped her stay close to her kitchen and enjoy each day.

   A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, November 29, 2013, , at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury. The Rev. William Beaudin, pastor, was the celebrant. The graveside committal service and burial will follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

   Arrangements are under the direction of Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.       

 

Katrina Mae Pope

BRANDON: Katrina Mae Pope, age 15, died Thursday, November 28, 2013, at her home in Brandon.

   Ms. Pope was born in Middlebury on December 23, 1997. She was the daughter of Bonnie Blake and Michael Pope. She has been a resident of Brandon since 2002 moving here from Middlebury. She received her early education at Neshobe Elementary School, where she played on the school basketball team. She was presently a sophomore at Otter Valley Union High School. She enjoyed reading, basketball and the summer softball league. She has been a girl scout for the past 11 years.

   Surviving is her mother; Bonnie Litchfield of Brandon, her father Michael Pope of Whitehall, NY, 2 sisters; Jessica Litchfield of Middlebury and Dominique Pope of Glens Falls, NY, 4 brothers; Collin Pope, Michael Pope, Jr, and Reese Pope all of Hartford, NY and Braedyn Pope of Whitehall, NY, a step brother; Cody Cenate of Whitehall and 2 step sisters; Desirae Cenate of Bolton Landing, NY and Brieanna Loveland of Hartford, NY and her maternal grandfather, Francis Blake of Salisbury. Many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother Ruth Blake and paternal grandfather, David Pope.

  The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013, at 1 PM, at the Forestdale Wesleyan Church. The Rev. John McDonald, pastor and the Rev. William Neil of Lee, MA will co-officiate. The graveside committal service and burial will follow the service in West Side Cemetery in Salisbury.

   Following the ceremony the family will receive friends back in the church hall, for a time of remembrance.

   Friends may call at the church on Monday, December 2, from 12 noon until service time at 1 PM.
