Natural History Afternoon for Children At Mount Independence

Tuesday July 23, 2013

On Saturday, August 3, 2013, naturalist Sue Wetmore leads a fun afternoon for children and their “adults” exploring nature on Mount Independence in Orwell.  The program starts at 1:00 p.m.  Meet at the Mount Independence State Historic Site museum.

In this leisurely program for children Sue Wetmore will lead a walk and show attendees about birds, butterflies, plants, and anything else that crops up.  If you have a budding naturalist in your family, this program is for you!

Dress for the weather, bring water, and snacks if you like.  Tickets are $5.00 for adults, free for children under 15, and includes admission to the museum and the trails.  Children should be accompanied by an adult.  The event is sponsored by the Mount Independence Coalition and Vermont Division for Historic Preservation.

Mount Independence, one of Vermont’s state-owned historic sites, is a National Historic Landmark and is one of the least disturbed Revolutionary War sites in America.  It is also known for its natural beauty and natural resources.  The site is located near the end of Mount Independence Road, six miles west of the intersections of VT Routes 73 and 22A in Orwell.  Regular hours are 9:30 to 5:00 daily through October 14.  Call 802-948-2000 for more information.
