While the conversation and light hearted banter included such phrases as Lion Tamers, Tail Twisters and 100% Secretary Awards, it truly was all about the business of community service when the Vergennes Lions got together to celebrate the end of the year and the beginning of the next year of service. Outgoing King Lion Kitty Oxholm remarked that, “I considered it honor to work with a group that is so cohesive and focused on working together to get things done.” Before the evening was done the serious nature of honoring Lions of the Month, Blood Service Program Gold Recipient Awards, and the evening height of three new Melvin Jones recipients, Ed Langlois, Harry Curth, and Paul Bessette for their service to community in the proudest tradition of Lions International Founder Melvin Jones. New King Lion Shannon Atkins and officers took the oaths of office and are now ready to begin their year of making their Lions Club the best it can be in every way. Even to the outsider, just there as a guest, it is clear to the eye and heart that Lions do because they can and each challenges the other to new levels of service and devotion. And by the way, they have a great time doing it too. The second course of the evening besides salmon and steak was heartfelt laughter and a rich chuckle or two!
