Phyllis Leigh Humiston

BRANDON:Phyllis Leigh Humiston, age 74, died May 25, 2013, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

   Mrs. Humiston was born in Goshen on August 20, 1938. She was the daughter of Edward and Marion (Hayes) Hayes. She grew up in Goshen where she received her early education. She was a graduate of Brandon High School, class of 1956. January 1, 1959 she married Bernard Arthur Humiston in Orwell. They made their home in Brandon. Mr. Humiston predeceased her March 24, 1987. In her earlier years she had worked at the Brandon Soda and Ice Cream Shop and Van Raaulte Shirt Manufacturing Company in Middlebury. She later worked for many years at Rollers by Baker in Forestdale. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and humming birds. She especially loved family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren.

   Surviving is 4 sons; Jeffrey B. Humiston, Gregory T. Humiston, Bernard “Chip” Humiston and his wife Sherry and Mark Humiston and his companion Brenda Hansen all of Brandon, 2 brothers; James Hayes & his wife Marie of Goshen and John Hayes & his wife Susan of Brandon, 4 grandchildren; Gary Benoit & Chrysty Palmer, Bryan and Emily Humiston, and 5 great grandchildren; Stephanie and Lauren Palmer, Addison Humiston, Colby Benoit and Reece Benoit. Many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. She was also predeceased by her parents, an infant daughter Sherry Humiston, her sister, Naomi Nickerson and 2 brothers; Edward Hayes, Jr, and George Arthur  “Bucky” Hayes.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, May 31, 2013, a at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon. The Rev. Albert “Skip” Baltz, was the celebrant. The graveside committal service and burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; Rutland Area Visiting Nurse & Hospice, 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701.

   Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Mary “Mimi” Scarlett Fox

FORESTDALE:Mary “Mimi” Scarlett Fox, formally of Forest Dale VT, died at Milford Hospital in Milford, CT on Saturday October 20, 2012.   She was 84 years old.
Born May 10, 1928 in New Britain CT to George and Julia Cunningham Scarlett, Mimi majored in Education and graduated from Trinity College Burlington VT in 1949 and began her teaching career at West Rutland High School then moved to Washington DC when she married her husband John in June 1951.

   Mimi lived in Washington DC and Lanham MD and worked as a 5th Grade Mathematics Teacher until retiring to Vermont in 1979.  Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Parrish in Brandon VT and is especially remembered as a devoted mom, loving wife, caring grandparent, and loyal friend.

Survivors include her sister Margaret DelMastro Wethersfield CT; her daughters Mary Colleen LaCrosse of Shamokin PA and Sheila Fox of Milford CT; her son Kevin Fox of Owings Mills MD; four granddaughters Jennifer Gilroy and husband Anthony Gilroy of Indian Head MD; Valerie LaCrosse and partner Chris Fallat of Kulpmont PA; Tina LaCrosse and partner Matt Grosse of Kulpmont PA, and Nicole “Peach” LaCrosse of Wilkes Barre PA; her great-grandchildren Britney Gilroy, Brandon Gilroy, AJ Gilroy, John Gilroy, and Lillie Gilroy of Indian Head MD; Kasey Paige Seger, Rilynn Fallat and Kyra Grosse of Kulpmont PA; in laws Wayne and Bette Fox of Westport NY; June Anderson of Clearwater FL, Theresa Fox Cummings of Ashland MA, and Patricia Scarlett of New Britain CT; and many nieces and nephews.

   Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband John Fox and her daughter Michele Fox; parents George and Julia Scarlett; brothers George Scarlett, Francis “Red” Scarlett, James Scarlett, and Clarence “Moe” Scarlett.

   Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a Memorial Mass for Mimi at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon VT on June 8th at 10:00 am. She will be buried with her husband John and daughter Michele in Arlington National Cemetery.

   The family extends their appreciation to Deacon Gary and Jeannine Griffin, the Segale Family, Donna Wyman, the Pelletier Family, Jan, Marie Bradbury, and friends and neighbors in Forest Dale for their care and support.
