Debra Joyce Russell-Sanborn

SUDBURY: Debra Joyce Russell-Sanborn passed away April 28 at the age of 59. She was at her family farmhouse in Sudbury, surrounded by family, when she ended her courageous battle against cancer. Debra was born March 11, 1954 in the Camp LeJeune Naval Hospital, North Carolina, and grew up at the farm in Sudbury, Vermont. For the past eight years she and her family have been living at Maidstone lake in Maidstone, Vt.  She is survived by her husband Steve Sanborn, and daughters Kaley and Naya Sanborn. Also, her brothers Phillip “Ted” and Mark Russell, and sisters Sherry Williams and Nicole Fatato, her father Phillip Edward Russell, as well as many in-laws, cousins and dear friends who cherished her. She was predeceased by her mother Marjorie Ellen (Barber) Russell.

    Debra attended Otter Valley Union High School in Brandon, and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Vermont. She also studied at the New York City Teachers College and did graduate work for her librarian’s degree at Plymouth State University.  Debra was a gifted primary school teacher and taught in Long Island, at the Westford Elementary School, the Essex Town School, the Granby school and Stratford Elementary School in New Hampshire. She was also the school librarian at Stratford.  She will be remembered by countless young children who she taught and loved.  Debra was an avid environmentalist, enjoyed gardening and cooking, loved to read and research, hiked, skied, biked and quilted. She was very proud of her children and her accomplishments as a mother and teacher.          

    Funeral services and a celebration of Debra’s life will be held at the Sudbury Town Church on Friday, May, 10th at 11:00 am with a reception to follow.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

John William Stamper

PITTSFORD: John William Stamper, age 75, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at his home in Pittsford.

    Mr. Stamper was born in Lake City, Florida on September 16, 1937. He was the son of John M. and Pearl (Bonds) Stamper. He grew up in Lake City where he received his early education. Mr. Stamper had worked in a variety of occupation over his life including, taxi driver, truck driver for Thomas Dairy and as a custodian at Proctor High School. He has been a Vermont resident since 1984 moving here from Lake City, FL. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a member of Rutland Post #31 American Legion. He enjoyed oil painting, sketching and watching old western movies.

    Surviving is his wife; Elizabeth “Betty” Bean of Pittsford, 2 sons, John M. Stamper of Lake City, FL and John W. Stamper, II of Rutland, 5 daughters; Wanda Stamper, Karen Stamper, Jennifer Del all of Lake City, Jessica Cormier of S. Burlington and Susan Stamper of Rutland, 2 step-daughters; Jeanette Francis of Ripley, TN and Tammy Gallagher of Rutland, 3 brothers; Harry, Murray and Allen Stamper all of Lake City, FL, 3 sisters Ruth Coffee, Susan Mettler and Diane Hodges all of Lake City, FL. 18 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his parents and 2 brothers; Robert and Frank Stamper.

    The graveside committal service and burial, with military honors, took place on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Forestdale Cemetery. The Rev. Richard White, pastor of the Brandon Congregational Church officiated.

Richard Joseph Malinowski, Sr.

LEICESTER: Richard Joseph Malinowski, Sr, age 72, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at his home in Leicester.

    Mr. Malinowski was born in Leicester on July 28, 1940. He was the son of Frank and Avis (Devino) Malinowski. He has been a life long Leicester resident. He received his early education in a local one room school house. Mr. Malinowski has been a woodsman all his life. He has logged various of the state with loggers; Bob Mitchell, John Swinington and Lawrence “Tweeter” Felion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and taking care of his property.

    Surviving are 2 sons; Richard J. Malinowski, Jr and David J. Malinowski both of Leicester, a daughter Dawn J. Malinowski of South Royalton, his mother, Avis LaRock of Brandon, 2 brothers; George Malinowski of Leicester and Robert Malinowski of Brandon, 3 sisters; Betty LaJoice of Brandon, Penny Bennett of Lake Luzerne, NY and Jennifer Jewell of Ferrisburgh. Many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his wife; Sandra E. Malinowski on February 4, 2012.

    A private memorial service “In Celebration of His Life” will take place, at the convenience of the family.
