Patricia j. charbonneau

Orwell-Patricia J. Charbonneau , 70 of Bridport, died Wednesday morning February 20, 2013 at her home following a long illness.

Patricia J. Charbonneau was born on October 24, 1942 in Crown Point, NY the daughter of the late Richard and Myrtle (Burt) Burgey.  She graduated Vergennes Union High School and on May 21, 1961 she married Thomas Charbonneau at St. Peter’s church in Vergennes.  She was a stay at home mom for many years and then worked as a care giver at Helen Porter Nursing Home.  She also worked at the Middlebury Inn as the Head Housekeeper until her retirement.  She was an avid reader until her vision became too poor and then she enjoyed audio books she loved cheering on the Red Sox, Patriots and the Philadelphia Flyers.

 She will be fondly remembered by her family and friends.  She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Thomas A. Charbonneau. She is survived by her five children Lisa Quesnel, Timothy Charbonneau, Daniel Charbonneau, Darcy Pientka, Rachel Valyou; her four grandchildren Sarah Larocque, Jamie Quesnel, Sydney and Simon Pientka; and two great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brother John Burgey and sister Dorothy Sipe.  

A gathering in celebration of the life of Patricia J. Charbonneau was held Monday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the American Legion in Vergennes.  Arrangements are under the direction of Sanderson – Ducharme Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vermont Library Systems Special Services Unit 578 Paine Turnpike North Berlin, VT 05602.

ChARles E. Mulcahy Sr.

SUDBURY-Charles E. Mulcahy, Sr., age 92, died Monday, February 18, 2013 at Porter Hospital in Middlebury.

    Mr. Mulcahy was a life long resident of Sudbury, born there on October 8, 1920, the son of John Lawrence and Rose (Tully) Mulcahy.  He received his education in Sudbury and Brandon schools and later attended the Quoddy Program in Eastport, ME where he learned carpentry skills

    Mr. Mulcahy entered military service in the US Army on Nov 12, 1943 and served for 20 months in the Pacific Theater of Operations.  He was honorably discharged on February 25, 1946.  He married Barbara Louise Ketcham on September 8, 1947 in Whitehall, NY.  They made their home in Sudbury.  Mrs. Mulcahy died Nov 3, 2012.
Mr. Mulcahy’s main occupation in life was dairy farming but he worked in several other occupations during his life, including mechanic, tractor dealer and school bus driver.    Mr. Mulcahy was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Brandon.

    Surviving are his children; Charles E. Mulcahy, Jr, of Sudbury, Pamela M. Ketcham of Brandon, Robert John Mulcahy of Sudbury, Gail Blas of Dayton, NV, Maureen White-Mulcahy of Palo Alto, CA and Michelle M. Goddard of Orwell, a sister, Theresa McLaughlin of Dudley, MA, 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was also predeceased by a brother Joseph Mulcahy, a sister Mary Engelhardt and a grandson, Kristoffer Michael Mulcahy.

    Honoring his request, private funeral services will take place at a later date, with burial in the family lot at Hill Cemetery in Sudbury.  Friends are invited to a gathering at American Legion Post 55 on Franklin Street in Brandon on Sunday, February 24, 2013 from 1 – 4 PM.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory, to St. Mary’s Church Renovation Fund, 38 Carver St., Brandon, VT 05733.

 Arrangements are under the direction of Miller & Ketcham Funeral home in Brandon.

Mary Katherine Tamiso Germond

SUDBURY-Mary Katherine Tamiso Germond, 88, of Sudbury, passed peacefully on Sunday, February 17, 2013, surrounded by friends, children and grandchildren.
She was born May 16, 1924 in Hartford, Connecticut, the daughter of Rose Francolina and Louis Tamiso and spent her early years in Hartford, graduating from Bulkley High School in 1942.

   As World War II overtook her generation, Mary went to work at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and was quickly promoted to Office Manager after which she met Jim Germond, the man who would be her husband of 55 years.

   Marriage would wait while Jim was sent to Italy with the Tenth Mountain Division and the couple married after the war on September 8, 1945.  They settled in Connecticut for the next nine years before moving to the Germond family farm in Sudbury, Vermont in 1954.  There, they built the home in which they would raise their five children and live together for the remainder of their respective liveMary believed strongly in service to others and served in a variety of volunteer and professional capacities, most notably as Sudbury’s Town Clerk and Treasurer for a decade, during which time she helped to guide the Town through myriad challenges including the construction of Sudbury’s Country School.  She also distinquished herself as an astute and capable Town Moderator through many years of Town Meetings and continued to serve Sudbury well into her 80’s. Her compassionate side was always in evidence and her tireless devotion to various church-related and community causes endeared her to many.

   Mary loved music and dancing.  She studied piano at a young age, performed with her High School Glee Club and was active in the St. Mary’s Church choir for many years.  The Germond house was the scene of countless jam sessions and more that a few legendary parties.

   She was pre-deceased by her husband Jim on October 3, 2000 and is survived by their five children:  Patricia Ketcham of Shaftsbury, VT., Christine Morgan of Bomoseen, VT., James Germond of Sudbury, VT., Gerri Parker of Proctor, VT and Gina Germond of Sudbury, VT., as well as nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.  She is also survived by her beloved brother, Franklin Tamiso of Stuart, Florida.

   A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, February 23, 2013 at St. Mary’s Church in Brandon.  Later burial will take place in the family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Brandon.

Arthur “Sparky” J. Markwell

Cornwall-Arthur “Sparky” J. Markwell, 53, died Thursday, February 14, 2013 at his home in Cornwall.
He was born July 16, 1959 in Springfield, Vt the son of Donald and Deanna (Smith) Markwell.
Art was a loving father, caring husband and spent his life being a hardworking farmer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycling and anything involved with the outdoors.

Survivors are his wife, Mary (Torrey) Markwell of Cornwall, two sons, Jason Markwell and his companion Kate Cartwright, of Orwell and Jeremy Markwell and his companion Karen Holbrook, of Bridport. By his brothers, Brian Markwell and David Markwell, by his sister, Joanne Demarais, by his grandchildren, Chloe Markwell, Clayton Markwell and Carter Markwell. By his step-grandchildren, Leah Cartwright, Stephen Lowry, Holly Rancour and Jared Rancour. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Hazel Mae Corey

BRANDON-Hazel Mae Corey, age 87, died Sunday, February 17, 2013 at her home.

  Mrs. Corey was born May 1, 1925 in Shoreham, the daughter of Arthur and Lottie Carey.  She spent her early years in Shoreham and all of her adult life in Brandon.  She married Arthur John Corey Aug 23, 1952 in Brandon.  Mr. Corey died  September 21, 1993.

   Mrs. Corey’s special interests included playing bingo, fishing, dining out and feeding animals.

   Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Guillemette, Brandon, one step son, Larry Garrow, Rutland, four step daughters, Joan Atwood, Leicester, Doris Aldridge, North Carolina, Helen Hale, Ludlow and Betty Osmer, Florida, 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and numerous step grandchildren.  Six brothers, Ernest Carey, Charles Carey, Stuart Carey, Francis Carey, Ralph Carey and Pete Carey predeceased her.

The funeral was conducted Saturday, February 23, 2013  in the Miller and Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.  The Reverend Kathleen Bevan, pastor of the Brandon United Methodist Church will conduct the service.  Later burial will take place in Forestdale Cemetery in Forestdale.

SANDRA WARREN

BRIDPORT - Sandra G. Warren, 75, died Monday, February 18, 2013 at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Middlebury.  

    Born August 10, 1937 in Troy, NY, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Edna G. (Watson) Bell.

    Sandra was a graduate of Mount Kisco High School, Mount Kisco, NY, class of 1955 and Plattsburgh University, class of 1959 where she received her BSN.  

    Sandra practiced nursing for over 20 years at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury, retiring in 1997.  Always considering the needs of others before herself, she was a very giving and generous person.  She welcomed all her children’s friends and step grandchildren and made them feel as they were her own.

She married Richard E. Warren in Troy NY and they moved to Bridport, VT in 1965. She was a resident of Bridport for over 40 years.    She loved living on Lake Champlain and enjoyed fishing and watching her kids play on the lake. She also enjoyed bird watching, gardening, Nascar racing, animals and the companionship and motivation of her grandchildren.  

Family members include two sons, Richard E. Warren, Jr. and his companion Alisa of Long Island, NY and Andrew Eric Warren and his wife Michele of Bridport; one daughter, Deborah G. Laframboise and her husband Leon of Addison; one brother, Thomas Bell II of Port Orange, FL; one sister, Nancy Bell of Orlando, FL eight grandchildren, Andrea Warren, Nathan Warren, Samuel Warren, Amanda Laframboise, Caryn Drake, Christopher “C.J.” O’Sullivan , Richard O’Sullivan, and Kathryn O’Sullivan; and two great grandchildren, Olivia and Ilsa Drake.

Sandra was predeceased by her husband, Richard E. Warren who died February 9, 1991, by a grandson, Nicholas A. Warren, and by a brother Kenneth Bell.  

A memorial service was conducted Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Bridport Congregational Church with Rev. Tim Franklin, pastor officiating.
