Kenneth James CarletonCASTLETON: Kenneth James Carleton, age 58, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at his home in Castleton. Mr. Carleton was born in Proctor on October 2, 1954. He was the son of Maurice and Jessie (Johnson) Carleton. He grew up in Proctor where he received his early education and was graduated from Proctor High School, class of 1972. He afterwards worked at Vermont Marble for a short time before joining the staff at Proctor Trust for a few years. He began his career as a Machinist at General Electric in Rutland in October 1978 and was still actively employed there. He was an avid sports fan of all the New England Teams, especially the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He enjoyed camping and playing golf and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife; Donna M. Carleton of Castleton; whom he married in Rutland on February 24, 1990, his mother, Jessie Carleton of Rutland, 2 daughters; Amanda Gurney & her husband Brian of Rutland and Janelle Lucas & her husband Josh of Orwell, 2 sisters; Ola Jones & her husband Ron of Clarendon and Bonnie Blair & her husband Wayne of Battle Creek, MI, his sister-in-law Linda Carleton of Brandon and his grandchildren; Braeden Carleton, Teigen Gurney, Kylenne Gurney and Emma Lucas. Several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his father Maurice Carleton, a step-son; Barry Ellison, Jr, a brother Edward Carleton and a sister Shirley Ongerth. The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 11 AM, at The United Church of Benson. The Rev. Holly Ross Noble, pastor will officiate. A private graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, in Riverside Cemetery in Proctor. Joyce Lorraine BrousseauMIDDLEBURY: Mrs. Joyce Lorraine Brousseau, age 87, passed away peacefully at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center on January 30, 2013. Joyce was born in Manchester on May 15, 1925. She was the daughter of Randolph and Pearl (Hall) Jones. Joyce loved growing up on the farm of the former Brandon Training School where her father was the farm manager and supervisor. She graduated from Brandon High School, class of 1943 and received her R.N. from Rutland Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. Following her education she was employed for many years at Porter Hospital in Middlebury. Later, she assumed the role of District School Nurse ACSU eventually becoming the first full time school nurse at Mary Hogan Elementary School, where she enjoyed her work with children until she retired in 1992, following 26 years of service. Joyce loved playing the piano and singing, playing Bridge, her boxers and her cat, Honey, little children and dessert. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Heidi Brousseau of Addison, a niece Carol Adams and family of Middlebury, a special friend; Mary Jo Chaplin of Middlebury, a cousins Gloria Ramsey of California and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Brousseau and a dear friend; Peter Grannis of Burlington. Joyce’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to the dedicated staff of Helen Porter Health & rehabilitation Center for the caring and attention shown to Joyce during her time with them. In honoring Joyce’s wishes there will be no visiting hours or public funeral service. A private burial will take place, in the spring at the family lot in Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made, in her memory to; The Harp Therapy Program at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center, c/o Nancy Durham, 30 Porter Drive, Middlebury, VT 05753. NORMA Madelene HowlandWINDSOR:Norma Madelene Howland, age 94, died Friday, February 1, 2013, at the Pine of Rutland. Ms: Howland was born in Hubbardton on June 16, 1918. She was the daughter of Fred and Catherine (Walsh) Howland. She was a graduate of Brandon High School, class of 1937. She had worked as a telephone operator for New England Telephone in Brandon and Rutland and later was transferred to Windsor. She continued working for the phone company until her retirement in 1979, following more than 36 years of service. She enjoyed traveling, sewing and arts and crafts. She was an accomplished painter in oils. Surviving is her sister-in-law and care provider, Elizabeth Howland, a brother Wayne Howland and his wife Sylvia all of Brandon. Several nieces, nephews, grand nieces & nephews and great grand nieces & nephews & cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her brother Donald F. Howland and her sister Mary C. Howland A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon. The Rev. Ruel Tumangday, Parish Administrator will be the celebrant. A private graveside committal service and burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Following the ceremony the family will receive friends in the church parish hall, for a time of fellowship & remembrance. Friends may call at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon on Thursday, February 7, from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM.
