GLADYS QUESNEL

MIDDLEBURY- Gladys J. “Cidy” Quesnel, 88, a lifelong Middlebury resident, died Monday, January 14, 2013 at Fletcher Allen Healthcare, Burlington.

   Born in Middlebury March 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Dorothy (Cartmell) Murray.

   “Cidy” was a graduate of Middlebury High School, class of 1942. She and her husband Alphonse who died September 21, 1984, owned and operated Middlebury State Airport and Dustair Inc. for  over forty years.  

   She enjoyed gardening, flowers and animals.  In earlier years she enjoyed hunting and fishing.

   Surviving family members include two sons, John A. Quesnel and his wife Kate of Middlebury and Jim A. Quesnel and his wife Mary of Rutland Town; one sister, Marion L. “Bunny” Brock of East Middlebury; three grandchildren, Michelle Quesnel, Kevin Quesnel, and Ryan Quesnel; five great grandchildren, Taylor Quesnel, Trent Quesnel, Paige Quesnel, Trevor Young, and  Jacob Young.

   “Cidy” was predeceased by two sisters, Shirley Martin and Anne Simpson.

   Private services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.

   The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Addison County Humane Society, 236 Boardman St., Middlebury, VT 05753.

Ray Edward Pinson

BRANDON:Ray Edward Pinson, age 52, died Friday, January 11, 2013, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

    Mr. Pinson was born in Denver, Colorado on January 21, 1960. He was the son of Edward and Beulah (Carver) Pinson. He grew up in Wheat Ridge, CO where he received his early education. He was graduated from Wheat Ridge High School, class of 1978. He afterwards was graduated from Denver Automotive and Diesel College, class of 1980. He had served in the United States Army for two years. Following his honorable discharge he married Jane Mills on July 16, 1983 in Middlebury. They made their home in Canterbury, CT where he worked as an automobile mechanic. He later served in the Air National Guard as well. They moved to Brandon in 1987.  Mr. Pinson worked at Foster Motors in Middlebury and later taught automobile mechanics at the Hannaford Center in Middlebury for many years.  He had also worked as the Service Manager at Hendy Brothers in Middlebury. He taught mechanics at the East Providence, RI Vocational Center for 2 years before being forced to retire; due to illness; in 2010. He was a member of the Brandon-Forestdale Lions Club and belonged to Brandon American Legion Post #55. In addition to his family his passion was car restoration. He enjoyed landscaping and gardening.

    Surviving is his wife Jane (Mills) Pinson and 2 daughters; Danielle J. Pinson and Kaylee A. Pinson all of Brandon, his mother Beulah Pinson of Wheat Ridge, CO, 2 brothers; Roger P. Pinson and Ronald C. Pinson both of Arvada, CO. He was predeceased by his father, Edward Robert Pinson in February 2004.

    The memorial service “In Celebration of His Life” will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at 10 AM, at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

   Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory to; The Foley Cancer Center, 160 Allen Street, Rutland, VT 05701.

Dortha Bitting

FAIR HAVEN: Dortha “Dolly” Bitting, age 95, died Monday, January 14, 2013, at Mountain View Center in Rutland.

    Mrs. Bitting was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 17, 1917. She was the daughter of Miles and Ida (Stephens) Perry. She received her education in local Philadelphia schools and was graduated from Lansdale Business College. She had worked in clothing sales in Norfolk, VA for several years where she had also been a clothing model.  October 21, 1941 she married Frederick E. Bitting, Lt. Cmdr. United States Navy. She was a Navy wife for more than 20 years. Mr. Bitting predeceased her on January 3, 2002. She had been deeply involved for many years in Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She had trained other to be scout leaders, as well. She and her husband retired to Fair Haven in 1979 moving from Arlington, VA. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and hooking rugs. She was an accomplished artist in oil painting. A remarkable lady always on the go, pure motion and energy at it’s fullest.

    Surviving is a son Frederick E. Bitting, Jr., of Fair Haven, 3 daughters; Sharon Lee Pickard of Fockenberg-Limbach, Germany, Sandra L. Wilson of Claremont, NH and Stephanie L. Bill of Gerrardstown, W.VA, her brother, Robert S. Perry of Fox River Grove, IL, 2 sisters; Jean Alderfer of Frederick, PA and Cynthia Nestor of Souderton, PA. 3 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. She was also predeceased by 2 brothers John Perry and Charles Thomas Perry and 2 sisters Babette “Bobbie” Hogshead and Virginia Shaft.    The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013, at 11 AM at the Fair Haven United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Adams, pastor, The Rev. Marshall Hudson-Knapp, pastor of the Fair Haven Congregational Church and Rev. Dwight MacPherson, pastor of All Saints Anglican Church will co-officiate.  A private graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

    Following the ceremony the family will receive friends at their home on Prospect Street, from 12-2 PM, for a time of fellowship & remembrance.
