Mildred Irene Disorda

BRANDON: Mildred Irene Disorda, age 87, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at her home in Brandon.

     Mrs. Disorda was born in Sudbury on April 29, 1925. She was the daughter of Carl and Martha (Welch) Munger. She received her education in Brandon schools. In her earlier years she had worked as a Presser at Dick’s Dress Shop in Rutland. She later worked as a seamstress at Van Raaulte Manufacturing Company in Middlebury. She enjoyed gardening, canning and sewing. She was a life member of Brandon American Legion Unit #55 Ladies Auxiliary.

    She is survived by her husband; Perely Henry Disorda of Brandon; whom she married in Brandon on March 21, 1957, a son Stanley Disorda of Chattanooga, TN, 3 brothers Scott Munger of Brandon, Edward Munger of Rutland and Rodney Munger of North Grosvenor, CT, 3 sisters; Rachael Grimes of Proctor, Marjorie Rexford of Canton, CT, and Muriel Garigliano of Killingworth, CT. Many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by a brother George Carl Munger and 4 sisters; Dorothy Munger, Martha Munger, Grace Fallon and Alice Woolsey.

    The graveside committal service and burial will take place in the spring, at Forestdale Cemetery. The Rev. Richard White, pastor of the Brandon Congregational Church will officiate.
There are no public calling hours.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; Rutland Area Visiting Nurse & Hospice, 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

MARION BUSHEY

BRANDON: Marion T. Bushey, 90, died Friday, January 18, 2013 at Rutland Regional Hospital following a period of failing health.

    Born in Holyoke, MA March 10, 1922, she was the daughter of the late James B. Collopy and Marion (Simpson) Collopy.  

    She was a graduate of Winooski High School, class of 1940 and had worked at Doug’s Restaurant, Burlington, McCullough Office Supplies, Burlington and Abernathy’s.  Until 1982, she and her husband operated a dairy farm in Waltham.  

    Surviving family members include her husband, Harold A. Bushey of Brandon; one son, James A. Bushey of Brandon.

    She was predeceased by three brothers, Robert, James, and John Collopy.

    No services are planned.

    Arrangements are under the direction of Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, Middlebury.

Allen J. Petty

FAIR HAVEN-Allen J. Petty, age 85, died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Rutland Regional Medical Center.  

   Mr. Petty was born June 7, 1927 in Brandon.  He was the son of Amos and Nina (Hart) Petty.  He grew up in West Rutland where he received his early education and graduated from West Rutland High School.  He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1945 and served until 1948 and had served in the Panama Canal Zone during some of that time.

   Mr. Petty married Kathleen St. John on September 11, 1949.  The couple lived most of their married life in Fair Haven.  Mr. Petty was a auto body technician for over 50 years and owned the Bolger Street Body Shop in Fair Haven since 1978.  He was a member of American Legion Post 49  and Eureka Lodge 75, Free and Accepted Masons, both in Fair Haven and had been a member of the former Bomoseen Boat Club.

   Known to all as “Bud”, Mr. Petty was a self-taught musician, in the 1960s played with a country western band in area night spots, and most recently gave guitar lessons from his home.  In addition to his love of music, Mr. Petty was a history buff and liked to read all kinds of books.  A 5th generation Vermonter, Mr. Petty was known for his Yankee wit.

   Surviving are his wife of Fair Haven, a son, Terrance C. Petty, Portland, OR, two daughters, Alana Petty, Castleton and Suzan Brower, Fair Haven, 3 grandsons, several nieces and nephews.  A brother, John Petty and a sister, Ruth Laliberte predeceased him.

   The funeral will be conducted Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 11AM in the Mallory Funeral Home, 4 South Park Place, Fair Haven.  The Reverend Marshall Hudson-Knapp, pastor of the Fair Haven Congregational Church will conduct the service.    A graveside committal and burial service will take place in the spring at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Fair Haven  Memorial contributions  may be made to the Fair Haven Rescue Squad, 17 Prospect Street, Fair Haven, VT 05743-1220 or to the Rutland County Humane Society, 765 Stevens Rd,  VT 05763.
