In a time when obesity, heart disease, diabetes and cancer are at their highest rates, we search to find antidotes for reducing illness and disease and enhancing well-being in our lives.  By becoming an advocate for ourselves and through engaging in our own self-care, we can ensure that steps are consistently and taken in that direction. In some way, every matter is related to the state of our individual and collective well-being. Thus, every issue is a health issue. The majority of Americans look to medical doctors to cure their illnesses and to heal their diseases. More and more, people are looking beyond the medical profession for guidance and moving toward the path of alternative healing or holistic healthcare.

Middlebury resident, Betsy Spannbauer, is an energy healer. Throughout her entire life, Betsy has wanted to help people. Growing up an eighth-generation Vermonter, she had always considered herself traditional until about twelve years ago when she began taking courses in energy healing. Up until that time, Betsy suffered a myriad of ailments.  She was under the care of multiple physicians and was taking a whopping 17 different prescription medications. She did not stop seeing her medical doctors nor is she an advocate of doing so, but by being a Healing Touch patient herself in conjunction with becoming a practitioner, she whittled that seventeen down to two conventional doctor-prescribed medications, then finally to zero.

Through taking courses to become certified in Healing Touch and understanding how well she herself has responded to Healing Touch methods, she has become passionate about sharing this healing art with others. Betsy wants to help others through energy healing, an ancient yet current method of treating sicknesses and dis-ease.

Like a physicist in that she studies people’s energies and their vibrations as a whole, Betsy goes to another realm whereby she helps to heal blocked energies.  Betsy is a Healing Touch practitioner right here in Middlebury, Vermont.   As explained in Betsy’s website, crystalrosehealing.com, the Healing Touch method is a holistic energy therapy that emphasizes compassionate, heart-centered care delivered by practitioners who use gentle, non-invasive touch to facilitate healing.  This energy healing only works if it is in partnership with the patient.  The Healing Touch practitioner restores energy and balance to human energy systems that may have been altered by illness, pain or stress.

Betsy pointed out that Healing Touch is used successfully by many health care professionals in a variety of settings as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. Because of its wide-ranging benefits and applications, Healing Touch may be considered for almost any one may experience.  Healing is a process and should be enjoyed.  Betsy helps to re-align a person’s energy flow, reactivating the body/mind/spirit connection to eliminate blockages in chakras and to promote self-healing.

Perelandra Flower Essences, as developed by Machaelle Small Wright, are also utilized in Betsy’s healing sessions.  Small Wright states, ''There is an electrical pattern in all things that helps to balance our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual self.  When these are left unbalanced, discomfort becomes apparent and symptoms of disease begin to appear.  Once balanced, our system may respond by allowing our healthy self to come forth, healing body, mind, emotions and spirit."

In conjunction with the flower essence and the Healing Touch therapies, Betsy uses the Emotional Freedom Technique to guide her clients in becoming their highest and best selves.  EFT was developed by Gary Craig, who also discovered that a high percentage of all diseases have an emotional beginning.  Once that emotion is identified, dealt with, and resolved, the symptoms may well be eliminated.

Before finding her destined path of becoming an energy healer, Betsy simply considered herself “a farm girl who sang in the choir.”  She was born inside a farmhouse in the middle of an apple orchard in Shoreham, Vermont.  Her roots can actually be traced back to the Mayflower.  Recalling a special time in her life when she felt a unique connection to a local woman whom she met and sparked up conversations with at the grocery store, the course of Betsy’s life became forever changed. We’ll call her Mrs. C; Mrs. C and Betsy often talked and soon became friends.  As the years went by, they developed a close friendship.  Betsy and her husband of 28 years were even married in Mrs. C’s home.  It was after Mrs. C’s passing and the very painful and difficult time Betsy had in dealing with her death that an immense change occurred in her life.

Without a deep understanding of the life and death process, she was engulfed in a great deal of pain and suffering.  A seed was planted within Betsy in that painful transitional moment.  Betsy decided to become a hospice volunteer.  After a training period, her first client was, unbeknownst to Betsy until later, Mrs. C’s relative through marriage.  Seeing her through her dying days, she developed a close relationship with the woman.  Betsy was with her hours before she passed.  Needless to say it was a healing process, and Betsy’s passion for helping people was now deeply rooted.

Hospice work was like the opening of a door for Betsy.  During her years of hospice work, Betsy went on to take classes in healing.  She surprised herself after having believed in traditional medicine as the only way to heal while now here she was being taught a whole new way to look at life.

Spannbauer is not averse to traditional medicine, but rather sees it best applied while working in conjunction with energy healing.  Energy work allows your body to function at a higher level and restores harmony to the energy system.  Betsy has taken numerous healing courses, and is constantly seeking to learn more within her field. She hopes to introduce people to her knowledge as simply another view of the way the world works.  If she can help another human with their suffering, Betsy feels she will have done her job.

When internationally renowned Irish dancer Michael Flatley (Riverdance, Lord of the Dance, Feet of Flames and Celtic Tiger) was stricken with an unknown illness in 2006, he had to cancel the European tour of one of his shows.  According to the New York Times article by David Itzkoff, Flately was cured by an energy healer.  Itzkoff wrote, “Doctors were unable to identify the virus, and weeks of rest did not cure Mr. Flatley’s fatigue and muscle pain.  But he said the dancer was treated by Michael O’Doherty, a founder of the Plexus Bio-Energy Clinic <http://www.plexusbio-energy.com/index.htm> , which specializes in ‘rebalancing the life-force energy within and around the body,’ according to its Web site <http://www.plexusbio-energy.com/history-plexus-system.htm> .”  The article stated that Flately felt better within an hour of the treatment.

Energy healing has been used throughout the world for thousands of years, while the medical profession as we know it is in its infancy by comparison. Combining newer healing method and older methods as well as traditional (as medicine has been seen in more recent years) and alternative healing can and should be the intertwined and will hopefully become universally accepted in the future of human disease management.  Harnessing multiple theories, modalities, and skills to heal makes so much sense.  The path towards well-being is in our own hands.

Whether someone has back pain, migraine headaches, an ingrown toenail or any other ailment Betsy would love the opportunity to work with that person.  Stress, immune system strengthening, anxiety issues, pain, post-surgery recovery enhancement and a support to cancer care are all different issues Healing Touch can be of benefit.  Betsy and her ability to read human energy vibrations may not be for everybody but how would you know unless you give her a try? You just never know, a person seeking health and well-being should certainly experience a session to see if it might work for in the quest for good health.  Visit crystalrosehealing.com for more information or contact Betsy via email at [email protected] or by phone at 802-377-0865.
