Randall Scott Atwood, Jr

ADDISON:Randall Scott Atwood, Jr., age 56, died Saturday, October 20, 2012, at his home in Addison.

    Mr. Atwood was born in Proctor on July 29, 1956. He was the son of Allen and Joan (Corey) Atwood, Sr. He grew up in Brandon where he received his early education. He was graduated from Otter Valley Union High School, class of 1974. In his earlier years he had worked in the Automotive Mechanic Field. He joined the staff of Action Equipment where he became the assistant manager of equipment rental & sales. He later worked at Yandow Sales & Service in Ferrisburgh, when he was forced to retire due to illness. He was an avid hunter & fisherman who loved the great outdoors.

    Surviving is his wife; Joyce (Derrick) Atwood of Addison; whom he married in Cornwall on September 17, 1983, his mother Joan Atwood of Leicester, 2 brothers; Allen Atwood, Jr., of Sudbury and Gary Atwood of Whiting, 2 sisters Joallen Vincent of Middlebury and Susan Barrows of Morrisville. Many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his father Allen Atwood, Sr.

   The graveside committal service and burial was held on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Grandview Cemetery inAddison. . Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory to; The Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 11, 106 Panton Road, Vergennes, VT 05491.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Doris “Sally” Bryant

FORESTDALE-Doris “Sally” Bryant, age 98, died Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Wintergreen Residential Care Home in Brandon.

    Mrs. Bryant was born in Brandon on March 1, 1914. She was the daughter of Fred and Edith (Sweeney) Johnson. She has been a Brandon area resident all her life. She received her early education in local Brandon schools. In her earlier years she had worked, more than 41 years, as a machine operator at Newton-Thompson Wooden toy Manufacturing Company in Forestdale. She later was employed by Rollers by Baker and New England Woodcraft. She retired in 1981. She was a member of the Neshobe Old Time fish & Game Club and was an honorary member of the Neshobe Sportsman’s Club.

    Surviving is one son; Richard D. Bryant of Brandon. 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 10 Great, Great Grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter L Bryant on August 7, 1993. Five brother’s Fred W. Johnson, Willis Johnson, Archie Johnson, Norman Johnson and Dudley Johnson and 3 sisters Laverna LaRock, Dorothy Racine and Fern Simpson also predeceased her.

    The funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, , at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The Rev. John McDonald, pastor of the Forestdale Wesleyan Church  officiated. A private graveside committal service and burial followed in Forestdale Cemetery.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; The Brandon Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 232, Brandon, VT 05733.

 Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Chester Watters

Sun City Center, Florida-Chester Watters , 87, of Sun City Center, Florida, and a former resident of Brandon, passed away on October 17th, 2012. He was born on November 3, 1924 in Brandon. He was the son of Euclid S. and Ruth (Churchill) Watters. After graduating from Brandon High School in 1942, he entered military service with the U.S. Army's Elite Ranger Battalion and was transferred to the 104th Timberwolf Division in the European Theatre, where he fought with great courage, receiving 2 Bronze Stars for heroic acts and consistently going above and beyond the call of duty. Six months after honorable discharge he married Joyce Ann Black on June 1st, 1946 with whom he shared 66 wonderful years.

   In 1948 he began working for the U.S. Post Office in Brandon, retiring in 1981 after 33 years of service. He and Joyce traveled extensively throughout the United States before settling in Sun City Center.  Chet was actively involved in various branches of Masonry, including Shrine, Scottish Rites, Red Cross of Constantine, Royal Order of Jesters, Past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star, and achieving status of Most Illustrious Grand Master of the Grand Council of Vermont. He also was active in his local town and church affairs.

    He is survived by his wife, Joyce, two sons, David of Windham, Maine, Donald (Julie) of Bristol, Vermont, two daughters, Linda (Benedict) Dolan of Claremont, NH and Sue Ann Watters of Goshen. Two grandchildren, Amanda Ewell and Jason Watters, 5 great-grand children, Aiden and Avery Ewell, Hayley, Mackensie and Jayden Watters also survive him. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Beverley Watters.

    The memorial service, in “Celebration of His Life” was held on Saturday, October 27, 2012,  at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The graveside committal service and burial, with military honors, followed the ceremony, in the family lot, at Forestdale Cemetery.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in his memory to; the Shriners Children's Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104, or a charity of your choice.Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

PETER ERIC CARTWRIGHT

BURLINGTON - Peter Eric Cartwright, 50, father, friend, writer, reader, composer, computer engineer and all-around tinkerer, died Oct. 19, 2012, in the Vermont Respite House in Williston. Born Sept. 23, 1962, in Ridgewood, N.J., he was a 1981 graduate of The White Mountain School in Bethlehem, N.H., and a 1988 graduate of Lyndon State College (B.A., English). He moved to Burlington in the 1980s. Over the years, he worked at Together Networks, IDX, JDK, Allscripts, Seventh Generation, PeerVue and Galen Healthcare. Survivors include his daughter, Leah Margaret Cartwright; former wife, Kate Cartwright of Orwell; mother and stepfather, Margaret and Wendell Agne of San Diego, Calif.; uncle and aunt, Hans and Jerri Wellisch of Manhattan; aunt, Evelyn Coe of Las Cruces, N.M.; cousins; and many, many friends. He was predeceased by his father, Albert Cartwright in July 2012. A celebration of Peter's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at the St. John's Club in Burlington.
