Standing on the corner of Main and Green Street in Vergennes, the building housing Linda’s Apparel has been a clothing store in the Little City since 1902 and Linda Cook has been a part of the story herself since October, 1982. Linda was in eighth grade when she decided that her future centered on fashion and clothing. After graduating from Crown Point in 1980, Linda attended Champlain College and majored in Fashion Merchandising. Upon returning to the Little City, Linda joined the staff of Fishman’s Department Store and continued working there until the store closed in August, 1997.   Opening in the same location on her own in 2005, Linda’s Apparel has been a part of the Main Street scene ever since.

While fashion may have changed a lot in the thirty years she has been involved in it, the customer loyalty and family feeling has not. “Today’s fashion has a lot more color and is definitely trendier,” shared Linda Cook. “Styles come and go more quickly now, but my customers, some of whom have been with me since I started working in fashion, keep coming back and they have turned into family.” While the weather outside the store on this particular day was rainy and gloomy, the inside is warm, welcoming and boasting a host of local favorites including Carhartt, Columbia and Woolrich and draw the eye and the customer to the new part of the store called The Men’s Corner. Appealing to the casual working man, this newest venture by Linda would not have been possible without the support of husband Bruce Bishop.

“We will be diversifying to add dress pants and shirts as well,” shared Linda, “but we are excited at the reactions of people coming in and finding quality clothing for reasonable prices right here in Vergennes.”

With rich hues of brown, green, blue and fall red reflecting off of the wood finished floors and the smiling faces of Linda Cook and sales associate Bobbie Hutchins greeting you as you enter, Linda’s Apparel is a must see for warm winter clothes, gifts for that special someone, or a new shirt, pants or outerwear for the coming winter months. A long time of ago Linda heard the best piece of advice and has to this day adopted it as her philosophy for sales to, “Just be yourself,” and for thirty years that has served her and her loyal customers well. So, come on in to Linda’s Apparel where you can gaze through a wonderful window that is from the original panes in 1902, which is something old, see lots of wonderful sweaters, jewelry, and men’s name brands, something new, sit in a wonderful comfortable captain’s chair, something borrowed and check out an incredible display of new designer purses in shades of blue. Linda and Bobbie are waiting to greet you with a smile and help you will all of your shopping needs, including Vermont t-shirts and maple products, right on the corner, in the heart of the Little City.
