Middlebury Tigers Power a 41-6 Win over Mt. Anthony PatriotsBy Marcie Bolton Middlebury Varsity Football (2-1) was out for a win after last week’s defeat by Essex. They traveled to Mount Anthony Union High School’s (0-3) Spinelli Field to secure a 41-6 win. Scoring with seven seconds left in the first quarter, Middlebury’s Sam Smith ran the ball in for 6 yards giving the Tigers a 7-0 lead. Into the second quarter as the momentum started, Junior Tiger Keenan Bartlett caught a 28 yard pass setting up the next play where Jakob Trautwein then ran up the middle for 25 yards touchdown play. After a solid lead of 14-0, the Tigers continued their onslaught on the Patriots. Nicholas Felkl ran it in for the third score of the night from 4 yards after a nice punt return from Austin Robinson. The score was 21-0 for Middlebury with 4:38 left in the half. A minute forty left in the half Middlebury quarterback Tyler Provencher ran the option for a 15-yard touchdown bringing the score up a notch 28-0 Middlebury. Not to be outdone Josh Stearns ran for 37 yards after an exciting interception for a Middlebury touchdown, bringing the score to 35-0 with 10 seconds left in the half. A scoreless 3rd quarter brought the teams quickly into the 4th. Mt. Anthony scored their first touchdown in the fourth after an exciting 96-yard drive. Connor Rawling ran the ball in from 3 yards out, bringing the score to 35-6. Middlebury's Austin Robinson in as quarterback threw a TD on fourth down to Josiah Benoit which brought the Tigers and Patriots to their final score 41-6. Next Friday night the Tigers defense will have to rise to the challenge to match the potent Rutland offense and athleticism. It will be an exciting matchup at Doc Collins Field on homecoming weekend for Middlebury as they battle it out against the Raiders. |
