Rudolph Santo

Rudolph Santo, age 95, died Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

    Mr. Santo was born in Manhattan, NY on May 8, 1923. He was the son of Carmelo and Vincenza (DeLuca) Santo. He grew up in NYC where he received his education. He was a veteran of WW II; having served in the United States Army in the European Theatre, among his military awards is the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to NYC and began his career as a Journeyman Printer. He remained in the printing business for more than 30 years, with Modern Ad Printing Company. He was a member of New York Typographical Union. He afterwards began a second career as a Real Estate Agent for several years. He was a former resident of Westwood, NJ, where he was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church. He belonged to the Third Order of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of the Pascack Valley Singers. He had recently moved to Brandon to be near his daughter.

   Surviving are 2 daughters; Carolyn Ann Messina of Galloway, NJ and Patricia Ann “Patty” Dean of Brandon. 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by 3 brothers Benardo, Charles and Salvatore Santonacito and 3 sisters Rose Torres, Jenny Demaio and Frances Lupo.

    The graveside committal service and burial with military honors will take place on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at 1 PM at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph. The Rev. Ruel Tumangday, pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon will officiate.

   Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory to; The Brandon Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 232, Brandon, VT 05733 or to The Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center, Recreation Fund for the Residents, 30 Porter Drive, Middlebury, VT 05753.

 Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

HAZEL HARRIET LANDON

BRANDON:Hazel Harriet Landon, age 95, died Sunday, September 02, 2012, at Wintergreen Residential Care in Brandon.

    Mrs. Landon was born in Brandon on June 26, 1917. She was the daughter of Frank and Bertha (Wisell) Howland. She grew up in Brandon where she received her early education. She was graduated from Brandon High School, class of 1935. December 18, 1936 she married Carl James Landon, they made their home in Proctor, and in later years back in Brandon. Mr. Landon predeceased her December 26, 2006. In her earlier years Mrs. Landon had worked at Shapiro’s Department Store and the old National five & dime both in Brandon. She later worked as a seamstress at Rosenblatt’s Dress Factory, and had worked at General Electric in Rutland for 9 years.

    Surviving are 2 son’s; Robert Landon of Shrewsbury and Thomas Landon of Florence, 5 daughters; Peggy Shelly of Pasadena, CA, Carol Joley of Springfield, MA, Patricia Racine of Ferrisburgh, Betty Murawski of Agawam, MA and Marsha Deyette of Winooski, a brother Francis Howland of Vergennes. 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by 4 brothers; Raymond, Edward, Clarence and John Howland and 4 sisters; Betsy Howland, Mildred Keenan, Blanche Keenan and Wilma Kelley.

    The graveside committal service and burial will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at 3 PM at Evergreen Cemetery in Pittsford. Family and friends will share in the ceremony.
