Marion Coleman Kennedy

VERGENNES --- Marion Coleman Kennedy, 95, died peacefully in the loving company of two of her daughters on August 21, 2012. Independent and prepared to the end, she wrote the draft for her obituary.
Marion was born on June 5, 1917 in Jamaica, Vermont to Ruth (Dutton) and Tennie Coleman.   She graduated from Brattleboro High School in 1935 and The University of Vermont in 1939 where she was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society in her junior year.  She taught in Bristol and Randolph High Schools for five years prior to her marriage to Paul Townsend Kennedy of Bristol in 1945.

After several years of substitute work, she returned to the classroom as a primary grade teacher in Vergennes for eighteen years.

She and Paul had three daughters while living in Bristol.  Other homes later were in Gulfport, Florida and Vergennes.  Summers were spent at their camp in Charlotte.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1992 and by five brothers; Merton, Edwin, Kenneth, Loren and Lawrence Coleman.   She is survived by her daughters and their husbands; Ruth Kennedy Grant and Edwin (Win) Grant of Waltham, Jean Kennedy and Gil Williamson of Plainfield, N.H., and Lillian Coleman Kennedy and Robert Feuerstein of Boulder, CO; three grandchildren, Randolph Townsend Grant and wife Lorna Grant, George Coleman Grant, and Hannah Feuerstein Cohen and husband Jonathan Cohen; and great-granddaughter Adeline Kennedy Grant, plus many nieces and nephews.

Her daughters would like to add that the family wishes to thank Bernadette and Claude Laberge for the loving care provided in their home during Marion’s final two weeks.  They also thank Addison County Home Health and Hospice.  In lieu of flowers, donations to this wonderful organization can be made in Marion’s’ memory.   (Addison County Home Health and Hospice, PO Box 754, Route 7, Middlebury, VT  05753)
A celebration of Marion’s life will be held at the family camp in Charlotte on Saturday, September 15 at 2:00 PM.  Please RSVP to [email protected] if you plan to attend and directions will be provided. If without email, call Ruth at 802-877-2094 and leave a message with your contact information if no answer.  Car-pooling is encouraged as parking is limited.
