When the Edgewater Gallery of Middlebury, Vermont opens its doors on Saturday, August 18th, it will be celebrating the talents of artists that call Lake Dunmore and Fern Lake home. Co-sponsored by the Edgewater Gallery and the Lake Dunmore Fern Lake Association the exhibit features the works of local artists including Michael Bober, Warren Kimball, Dennis Stevens and others while focusing attention on the continuing battle the association faces in controlling the milfoil invading many Vermont lakes.  Lake Dunmore Fern Lake Association member Sue Potter sees the event as, “a wonderful Funraiser and a way to bring people together to talk about the lakes.” She also acknowledges that the efforts of the 400 members of the Lake Dunmore Fern Lake Association are ongoing and costly. The group has waged an ongoing battle against the milfoil infestation for the past ten years and since 2008 has employed seven divers, two greeters and put huge amounts of efforts and capital into suction harvesting the invasive milfoil.

Edgewater Gallery not only offers distinctive collectible works by established and emerging artists from Vermont and beyond, but also works with local groups to create exhibits within their space that focus attention on important and compelling bodies of work related to life in the region. Gallery manager Bay Jackson commented on the exhibit.  “It was great to see it come together and the varying styles of art will make it a compelling show.” The exhibit runs from August 18th to August 26th and gallery hours are 11:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday and Monday and 11:00-6:00 p.m. Wednesday- Sunday. Be prepared for pieces that command your attention and conversation to include a myriad of stories about life on the waters of Lake Dunmore and Fern Lake and what is being done to hold the line against an invasive and problematic infestation.
