George Nathan Fisher

LEICESTER: George Nathan Fisher, Jr., age 76, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

    Mr. Fisher was born in Endicott, New York on July 9, 1935. He was the son of George and Louise (Allen) Fisher, Sr. He was graduated from Arlington High School in Poughkeepsie, NY, class of 1955. He earned his Bachelors from S.U.N.Y. Buffalo, class of 1959. He later earned his Masters in education from S.U.N.Y. Buffalo, as well. He taught Industrial Arts at Minisink Valley High School, in Slate Hill, NY for more than 32 years, where he coached track and cross country for over 20 years. He retired in 1991. He and his wife retired to Vermont in 1996, but had summered here since 1973. He was an avid woodworker and was a fan of Studebaker Automobile’s. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family.

    He is survived by his wife Judith (Stearns) Fisher of Leicester; whom he married in Skaneateles, NY on June 20, 1959; 4 daughters; Pamela Proehl & her husband Gerald of San Diego, CA, Deborah Gallagher & her husband Charles of Tucson, AZ, Mary Jo Hjerpe & her husband Thomas of Northborough, MA and Patricia Duffy & her husband Timothy of New Windsor, NY, a sister; Sharon Givison & her husband William of Poughkeepsie, NY. 10 grandchildren; Meghan, Sean, Zachary, Allison, Garrett, Emily, Anna Grace, Sophie, Michael and Chloe survive as well. Several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. Two brothers, Dale Fisher and Gary Fisher predeceased him.

    A memorial service “In Celebration of His Life” will take place at the convenience of the family.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory to; The Minisink Valley High School Cross County Team, c/o Patty Duffy, 36 Brook Hollow Drive, New Windsor, NY 12553.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
