JONAh WILLIAM RULE

Starksboro - Jonah William Rule 32, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening June 26, 2012 as the result of an automobile accident.

    He was born June 8, 1980 in Middlebury the son of William Dennis Rule and Ann (Piper) Rule.  Jonah was a graduate of Middlebury Union High School class of 2000.

    He was currently employed with Glen Peck Electric.

   Jonah loved spending time with his wife Caitlin and children Austin, and Callie. He also enjoyed four wheeling, hunting, golf and loved racing. He formerly raced at Devils Bowl Speedway in West Haven. Jonah was the type of man we all strive to be. He was a loving caring man who touched so many people in his short time with us.

 He is survived by his mother Ann Rule and significant other Paul Lengyel of Middlebury, by his wife Caitlin (Hill) Rule and their children, Austin and Callie Rule all of Starksboro, Sister Tory Palmer and Husband Andre of New Haven. By his brothers, William Jessie Rule and his wife Bethany of Middlebury, Chad Michael Rule and his wife Stephanie of Monkton and Shawn Warner and his wife Michelle of Salisbury, by his sister, Wendy Mortus and her husband David of Apollo Beach, FL, by his step mother Diana Rule, of Vergennes,  by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and numerous cousins and countless friends.

    A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday July 3, 2012  at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. William Beaudin as Celebrant. Burial  followed in Weybridge Cemetery.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Jonah Rule Memorial Fund at Peoples Trust at Peoples United Bank, Middlebury, VT.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home.

Richard Lee Pickens

BRANDON - Richard Lee Pickens, age 85, died Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.  He was born in the Utica, New York on August 14, 1926.  He married the love of his life, Audrey Joan Carroll and the couple resided for many years in Brandon.  Mr. Pickens retired from Brandon Training School after many years of service there working in food preparation.  His special interests included camping, fishing and shuffleboard.  He was employed seasonally at Kampersville In Salisbury and particularly enjoyed giving children haywagon rides there where he was fondly known as “Gramps”

    Surviving are two daughters, Gail O’Brien, Bristol and Jean Meyer, Quakertown, PA, a son, Joseph Pickens, FL, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.  Also surviving are a special niece Marie Carosella and two special nephews Mathew and Benjamin Carosella whom Mr. Pickens raised.  He was predeceased by his wife, Audrey on Nov 25, 1995.

   The funeral was conducted  Friday, July 6, 2012  in the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home, Brandon. Church Elder John Appelt of the Brandon Baptist Church conducted the service.  Interment followed in Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon.  

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Heart Association, 434 Hurricane Lane, Williston, VT 05495.

Aurilla May (Cookie) Doner

BRANDON:Aurilla May (Cookie) Doner Arroyo, age 95, died Monday, July 2, 2012, at Wintergreen Residential Care in Brandon.

    Mrs. Arroyo was born in Brandon, Vermont on August 6, 1916. She was the daughter of Alfred and Kate (Donnah) Doner. She grew up in Proctor Vermont with her parents and 15 siblings. Cookie was well known for her baked goods at the farmers market and bake sales out in front of her home where she lived for more than 30 years.

   Cookie was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #55. She was a foster grandparent at BTS and a caregiver after retiring from Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut. At Trinity College she dedicated 26 years to cooking for the Phi Beta Kappa Hall and St. Anthony’s Hall.

    She is survived by her daughter Cathy (Austin) Reed of Brandon, four grandchildren, Arthur (Skip) Stevens and his life partner Pennie Beach, Robin Stevens and wife Betty Jean, Valerie (Stevens) Lutz and husband Gary and Cynta Bryant and husband Gary, a daughter in law Shirley Austin, 9 great grandchildren Joseph Stevens, Carly Stevens, Broc Stevens, Kayla Stevens, and Cynceree Madrigal, Danielle Denis, Jennifer Buzzell, Ashley Hansen, and Nathan Hansen. 10 great, great grandchildren, Bianca, Garacyn, Jazalyn, Brianna, Dylan, Connor, Logan, Mason, Camden, and Ryea Mae. She is also survived by her very close nieces and nephew who she truly treasured and her special friends Theresa Mitchell and JoAnn Scarborough of Brandon, Millie Janacez and Mark Ruoppo of Connecticut and many others. She was predeceased by her son; Herman Austin and her 15 brothers and sisters.

 At Cookie’s request there will be no calling hours. A memorial will be held at a later date.

 Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; The Brandon Area Rescue Squad P.O. Box 232, Brandon, VT 05733.

 Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
