Nona Fife Peck

Brandon- Nona Fife Peck, Age 88, Died Friday, June 1, 2012, At Her Home In Ft. Myers, Florida.
Mrs. Peck Was Born In Montreal, Canada On November 5, 1923. She Was The Daughter Of Harry And Ella (Sanford) Fife. She Grew Up In Middlebury Where She Received Her Early Education. In 1944, She Graduated From The Mayo Clinic School Of Physical Therapy In Rochester, Mn And Then Earned Her Bachelor’s Degree In Biology From Middlebury College, Graduating In The Class Of 1945. During World War Ii, Mrs. Peck Was An Ensign In The U.S. Naval Reserve And Ran A Neurological Unit At Great Lakes Hospital, In Il Where As A Physical Therapist She Helped Rehabilitate Wounded Service Men From The Pacific Theater.On July 5, 1946 She Married William Warren Peck In Middlebury. They Made Their Home In Brandon Where Mr. Peck Owned And Operated Brandon Fuel. They Celebrated Their 50th Wedding Anniversary With Family And Friends In July 1996. Mr. Peck Predeceased Her August 16, 1996.

She Had Worked At Rutland Hospital As A Physical Therapist For Several Years. Nona Loved Flowers And Was A Past Member Of The Brandon Garden Club. She Enjoyed Sewing And Knitting And Was An Avid Reader. She Loved Spending Time With Her Family, Especially At Summer Gatherings At Her Cottage On Lake Dunmore In Salisbury, Vt Where She Loved Sitting Around The Campfire And Singing Songs. She Was A Member Of The Brandon Congregational Church For Over 50 Years.Surviving Are Three Sons; Jeffrey W. Peck And Wife Deborah Blanch Peck Of Chagrin Falls, Oh, James M. Peck And Wife, Audrey Crossman Peck Of Plaistow, Nh And John T. Peck And Wife Deborah Hartney Peck Of Glens Falls, Ny, 2 Brothers, Harry Fife, Jr, Of Seattle, Wa And James Arthur Fife Of Denton, Md. Five Grandchildren; Brenden, Colby, Hillary, Carter, And Catherine And A Great Granddaughter Cearah Also Survive Her. In Addition To Her Husband She Was Also Predeceased By A Son; Roger Fife Peck, A Grandson, Jeremy W. Peck And Her Sister, Doris Mcgowan

The Funeral Service Were Held On Saturday, June 9, 2012, At The Brandon Congregational Church. The Rev. Richard White, Pastor Officiated. Following The Ceremony The Family Will Receive Friends In The Church Hall, For A Time Of Fellowship & Remembrance.A Private Graveside Committal Service And Burial Took Place Later In The Day, In The Family Lot, At Evergreen Cemetery In New Haven.In Lieu Of Flowers, The Family Request, That Gifts Be Made In Nona’s Memory To; Middlebury College, Directed To The Harry M. Fife Memorial Prize At Middlebury College, Gift Administration, Attn: Brenda Currier, 5 Court Street, Middlebury, Vt 05753; Or To The Brandon Congregational Church, Memorial Fund, C/O Rev. Sylvia “Pat” Southwick

Middlebury- Sylvia Patricia “Pat”. Southwick, 75, a longtime resident, died Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Fletcher-Allen Healthcare, Burlington.  Born October 21, 1936 in Bridport, she was the daughter of the late Louis S. and Helena (Maheu) Pidgeon.  Pat was a graduate of Middlebury High School, class of 1954 and was a day care provider for many years.  She was a member of AARP and Little Houses Daycare Providers of Middlebury.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Church. She attended St. Mary’s School for her early childhood education.

Surviving family members  include four sons, William E. Southwick, Jr. of  Middlebury, David E. Southwick and his wife Trula of Sheldon, Matthew B. Southwick of Seattle, WA, and Michael S. Southwick and his wife Cori  of Rutland; four daughters, Bonnie L. Beecy and her husband William of Vergennes, Deborah E. Pfeiffer and Mike of Middlebury, Patricia C. Atkins and her husband Anthony of Manassas, VA, and Christina M. Dufresne  of Barre; ,three brothers,  Ronald L. Pidgeon of Vergennes, Roger A. Pidgeon of Middlebury, and Richard S. Pidgeon of West Charleston; 20 grandchildren whose names are listed on the funeral home website, 17 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, William E. Southwick, Sr. in 1997 and by her brother Robert L. Pidgeon.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Thursday, June 7 at St. Mary’s Church with the Rev. William R. Beaudin, pastor, as celebrant.  Burial  followed in Evergreen Cemetery, Cornwall.

STEPHEN WELLS

Bridport- Stephen W. Wells, 64, of Snake Mountain Rd. died Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Porter Hospital following a sudden illness.

Born in Enosburg, VT August 14, 1947, he was the son of the late Kenton J. Wells and Geraldine (Longe) Wells Newton. He was a retired truck driver for S.D. Ireland of Williston He served in the United States Army in Viet Nam War and was the recipient of a Purple Heart.  

Stephen was a member of the American Legion, of Middlebury and the V.F.W. of Middlebury. He enjoyed working with and caring for his horses.Family members include his companion of 11 years, Madelyn  LaFountain of Bridport; and her children, Linda Goodspeed of Vergennes, Minda Brown, of Bridport, Wilfred J. LaFountain Jr. of Salisbury, Brenda Sampson of Addison and Andrea LaFountain of Bridport, his stepfather Clinton Newton of Morrisville; three sons, Michael Wells, John Wells, and Lucas Wells; a stepdaughter, Amy Sunderland and a stepson Jamie Mitchell; one sister, Linda Cary of Jeffersonville.He was predeceased by his wife, Darlene (Alger) Wells.There will be no calling hours.A graveside service will be conducted at 2 PM Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Pine Hill Cemetery, Brandon with Rev. Richard White, pastor of Brandon Congregational Church, officiating. Military honors will follow.  Arrangements are under the direction of Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, Middlebury.
