Mary Veronica Kerr

BRANDON— Mary Veronica Kerr, age 80, died Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

    Mrs. Kerr was born in the Bronx, NY, on March 27, 1932. She was the daughter of Robert E. and Marguerite (Toohey) Callahan. She was graduated from Manhattan Trades High School. She worked a short time for the City of New York and later the Alfred M. Best Co. After the birth of her children, she became a stay at home mom; raising her three sons until they completed elementary school. She and her family moved to Brandon in 1967 where she worked part time doing housekeeping for several families in the Forest Dale and Leicester area. She also worked at Brandon Coils. After the birth of her grandchildren she stayed at home to care for them.

   She was a past member of the Forestdale P.T.C.; a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, Wethered J. Boyd Council. She was a past member of; Court Our Lady of Good Help, Catholic Daughter’s of America. She was a past member of the Parish Council’s of St. Monica’s Church, in Forestdale and of St. Mary’s Church in Brandon. She was also a member of the choir of St. Monica’s and was presently active in various committees at St. Mary’s Church in Brandon. She was known for her extravaganza costumes in the Halloween Parades at the Forestdale School. One of her best remembrances is the “KERRSLAW” she made for various fundraisers and dinners.

    Surviving are her 3 sons; Thomas J. Kerr & his wife Donna of Ripton, Robert K. “Bobby” Kerr and companion Jackee Foley of Leicester, Timothy P. Kerr of Brandon. Grandchildren; Brian & partner Christina, Heather, Leah, Stephen and Elizabeth and great grandchildren; Andrew, Cori, Liberty, Alexandria, Lucas John and Sophia. A nephew Denis R. Sullivan of CT and best friend; Jean Pfenning, also survives her. She was predeceased by her husband John T. Kerr on Dec. 8, 2010; they were married in the Bronx on June 27, 1953. She was also predeceased by a sister, Margaret Sullivan Madalock.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at 10 AM, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon. The Rev. Albert “Skip” Baltz, pastor will be the celebrant. The graveside committal service and burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Following the ceremony the family will receive friends at Brandon American Legion Post #55, for a time of fellowship & remembrance.

    Friends may call at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon on Tuesday, May 29, from 6-8 PM, where Fr. Skip will conduct a Vigil Service at 7:45 PM.

Gertrude Pauline McDonough

LEICESTER— Gertrude Pauline McDonough died Friday, June 01, 2012, at Mountain View Center in Rutland.

 Mrs. McDonough was born in Leicester. She was the daughter of Charles and Caroline (LaDam) Johnson. She received her education in Leicester Schools. She had worked for many years, in patient care at Porter Hospital.

Surviving is her daughter; Marge O’Byrn of Mahwah, NJ, 2 sons George W. “Bill” McDonough, Jr., of Salisbury and John F. McDonough of Leicester, a sister Mary Fonda of Rutland. 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband; George W. McDonough, Sr., on July 11, 1982, 1 sister Alice White and a grandson Jerry O’Byrn.

 The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at 10 AM at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The Rev. Richard White, pastor of the Brandon Congregational Church will officiate. The graveside committal service and burial will follow in Forestdale Cemetery.
