Paul Gendreau

ORWELL: Paul Gendreau, age 75, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, NH.

    Mr. Gendreau was born in Bedford, Quebec Canada. He was the son of Adelard and Clara (Hamilton) Gendreau. He grew up in Bedford where he received his early education. He came to Vergennes in 1959 where he farmed for several years before assuming a position with the Robert Brisson Family Farm in Shoreham. He had worked as a Dairy Farmer for more than 30 years. He was forced to retire due to medical issues in 1991. He enjoyed professional wrestling and was an avid hunter & fisherman.

     Surviving is his wife Betty (Ryder) Gendreau of Orwell; whom he married in East Shoreham on April 30, 1976, 3 daughters Rosie Norton of Pittsford, Audrey Gendreau of Ferrisburgh and Julie Gendreau of Shoreham, 2 step daughters Rosa Mahoney of Shoreham and Maria Hall of Orwell, 2 sons; Joseph Gendreau of Kentucky and Randy Gendreau of Hubbardton, a step-son; Ed Lanpher of Shoreham, 5 brothers; Adelard Gendreau of Quebec, Dick Gendreau of Buffalo, NY, Donald Gendreau of Panton, Armand and Antoine Gendreau both of Quebec, 2 step-sisters Shirley and Gladys.17 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by a step-son; Clyde Lanpher and 5 brother’s; Romeo, George, Norman, Maurice and Alfred Gendreau and a sister; Evelyn.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at 11 AM, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Orwell. The Rev. Henry Furman, pastor will be the celebrant. Following the ceremony the family will receive friends at the Orwell Fire House for a time of Fellowship & remembrance. A private graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, in Forestdale Cemetery.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made in his memory to; The Orwell Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 124, Orwell, VT 05760.

Sheila Catherine (Maguire) Cassin

MIDDLEBURY: Sheila Catherine (Maguire) Cassin, age 79, died at home surrounded by family on Thursday, April 12, 2012, following a courageous battle with colon cancer.

    Mrs. Cassin was born in Ottawa, Ontario Canada on July 19, 1932. She was the daughter of Harold and Edith (Doran) Maguire. She grew up in Ottawa where she received her education. She had worked at the Canadian Defense Research Board.
 
After a courtship of long canoe rides on the Ottawa Canal and skiing in the Gatineaus she married Raymond Cassin. She and her husband came to Middlebury in 1955. Together they raised four children in a home filled with love and dedication to family. She took great pride in her twenty-four years at the Middlebury College Economics Department. She enjoyed working with the professors and students and the challenges of organizing events and conferences. Sheila was a regular presence at the Middlebury College Hockey Games. In retirement she loved golfing, gardening, canoeing and skiing with her eleven grandchildren. Sheila had wonderful memories of traveling with her husband and sometimes other family members to Switzerland, Ireland and the National Parks in the Western United States and Canada. Her grandchildren fondly remember her support at their athletic events, concerts and other special occasions. Sheila volunteered at Porter Hospital and contributed to projects at Saint Mary’s Church. Her faith was important to her.

    Surviving is her husband Raymond John Cassin of Middlebury; whom she married in Ottawa on January 14, 1956; her children; David and his wife Sara of Goffstown, NH and their children Jared, Meighan and Jesse; Anne Greshin and her husband Adam of Warren, VT., and their children Laura, Sam and Jackie; Janice Plaza and her husband Scott of Essex Junction, VT., and their children; Jason and Erin; and Stephen and his wife Daphne of Bentonville, AR.; and their children; Courtney, Connor and Christopher. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws; Louis Maguire, Jacqueline Chapdelaine and Elizabeth Cassin and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by siblings; George Maguire, Harold (Buddy) Maguire, David Maguire and Shirley Freel.

    A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at 11 AM, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury. The Rev. Justin Baker, pastor of Christ The King Church in Rutland will be the celebrant.

     Following the mass the family will receive friends at the Middlebury Inn, for a time of fellowship & remembrance.

    A private graveside committal service and burial will precede the mass in the family lot, at Weybridge Hill Cemetery.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; Addison County Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
