Janet Duffany

Bridport:Janet Elva Landon Duffany,77,  died March 5, 2012 at the Pines in Rutland.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 PM Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at St. Genevieve’s Cemetery, Shoreham with the Rev. William Beaudin, pastor of St. Genevieve’s Church officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Vermont, 300 Cornerstone Drive, Suite 128, Williston, VT 05495.

George Nicholas Dinn

 Brandon:George Nicholas Dinn, age 87, died March 7, 2012, at his home in Brandon.
Mr. Dinn was born in Rutland on January 15, 1925. He was the son of Nicholas Andrew and Catherine (Higgins) Provost Dinn. He has been a resident of Brandon all his life. He received his early education in the Arnold District School and had attended Brandon High School. Mr. Dinn had served in the State Guard of Vermont. He entered active duty service with the United States Army on April 18, 1944. He served in the European Theatre of Operations. He was involved in the battles of the Rhineland and Central Europe, where he was wounded in Germany on April 4, 1945. Mr. Dinn recuperated at the Thomas M. England General Hospital in Atlantic City, NJ, where he received his Honorable Discharge. Included in his military decorations are the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal and the European Theatre Service Ribbon with 2 battle stars. Mr. Dinn returned home and began working as a logger for the Dutton Lumber Company in Brandon. He later was a self employed landscaper for the remainder of his life. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Brandon American Legion Post #55.

 Surviving is his good friend Ron Dutton of Leicester, several cousins and a host of friends. He was predeceased by his companion; Linda Barrows on February 9, 2012.

 The graveside committal service and burial, with military honors, will take place on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 10 AM, at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon. The Rev. Richard White, pastor of the Brandon Congregational Church will officiate.

 Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory to; The Brandon Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Chief, Robert Kilpeck, 29 Walnut Street, Brandon, VT or to the Brandon Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 232, Brandon, VT 05733.

Hazel Shedd Mohan

Brandon:Hazel Shedd Mohan,  age 101, died March 14, 2012 at her home in Brandon with her family by her side.  

Mrs. Mohan was born in Brandon on October 18, 1910, the daughter of Carroll J. and Katie J. (Cahee) Shedd.  She received her elementary education in Forest Dale and was a graduate of Brandon High School.  Mrs. Mohan was a homemaker all of her life and her special interests included her family, horses, outdoors, shopping and creamees.

Surviving are her children, Patricia Brown, Ferrisburg, Bernard and Fran Mohan, Lexington, TN, Jane Robidoux, Wareham, MA, Kenneth and Verna Mohan, Brandon, Thomas and Penny Mohan, Brandon, and daughter-in-law, Elsie Mohan of Leicester, 21 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband, William B. Mohan in 1955, her sons, Norman Mohan and Richard Mohan, daughter-in-law Phyliss Mohan and son-in-law, Jack Brown.  She was also predeceased by her special friend, Raymond Forrest and her beloved dog, Bonnie.

A funeral service “In Celebration of Her Life”  was conducted Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 1PM in the Miller and Ketcham Funeral Home, 26 Franklin Street in Brandon.

Calling hours were held Saturday, March 24, 2012,  A private family graveside committal service followed in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Forest Dale.  .

Memorial contributions may be made either to the Rutland Area Visiting Nurse and Hospice, 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, 05701 or to the Brandon Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 232, Brandon, 05733.  The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Rutland Area Visiting Nurse and Hospice for their help and support.  
The Miller and Ketcham Funeral Home, 26 Franklin Street in Brandon in handling the arrangements.

Lyle Greenwood

SHOREHAM – Lyle Greenwood, 63, died Sunday, March 18th at his home with his family at his side.

   Lyle was born February 9, 1949 in Bristol, CT.  He was the son of the late Kenneth and Winifred (Ogle) Greenwood.

   He worked at Middlebury College as a mason and carpenter.  He was a very gifted man who has left examples of his brick and stone work in Addison County.  His greatest love was the outdoors, that’s where he felt most at peace.  His gentle nature will be missed by all.  

  Lyle is survived by a brother, Kenneth and sister-in-law Joyce Greenwood, a sister April and brother-in-law Paul Beals.  He also leaves a special sister-in-law, MaryAnn Greenwood who took exceptional care of him in his last four months.  In addition, he also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.  A heartfelt thank you to Buzzy Hubbell for being such a wonderful friend and for all he did for Lyle during his illness.

   He was predeceased by his wife Marguerite (Kelly) Greenwood who he married October 12, 1985, and also by his brother Arthur Greenwood..

  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to AddisonHome Health & Hospice at P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753

   A memorial service will be held at Shoreham Congregational Church on Saturday, March 31 at 2PM.  Burial to follow in St. Genevieve’s Cemetery.

  Arrangements are under the direction of the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home.
