JEAN  LITTLEFIELD

Middlebury: Jean J.  Littlefield completed a long, busy life Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.   She was 83 years old.

    Born in Jackson, Tennessee April 2, 1928, Jean was the only daughter of James V. and Celeste (Tisdale) Johnston.  She attended public schools in Tennessee, Missouri, Alabama, Michigan, Mississippi, and Colorado.  She earned her BA from Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi in 1950 and her Masters from the University of Denver in 1952.  

    Mrs. Littlefield married David J. Littlefield of Tupper Lake, NY on August 25, 1953.  The newlyweds came to Middlebury in September of 1953 where her husband was employed by Middlebury College.  

    Jean was a speech-pathologist over the years at various Addison County schools including elementary grades in Bridport, Shoreham, Orwell, Cornwall, Weybridge, East Middlebury, Ripton, Shannon Street School, Middlebury Union Middle School and the Hannaford Center.  She retired in 1990. Jean served on many committees including the Counseling Service of Addison County where she was past president, the state of Vermont Developmental Disabilities Council and was an advisor to Brandon Training School.         

 She was active in the Middlebury Community Players, especially in musicals, from Sarah in Guys and Dolls in 1962 to Heidi in Follies  in 1997.  Jean’s favorite theatrical was  The Permit.

    She was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church where, among many other activities, she sang in the church choir.

    Surviving family members include her husband, David J. Littlefield , Sr. of Middlebury four sons, Patrick Littlefield and his wife Amelia Rogers of Boxborough, MA, David J. Littefield, Jr. and his wife  Karen Stolley of Atlanta, GA, Mark Littlefield of Brandon and Christopher Littlefield and his wife Sarah of Reading, MA; eight grandchildren.  

    Jean was predeceased by her brother James V. Johnston, Jr. in 1977.

    A funeral services were held on Friday, March 16, 2012 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, where the Rev. Larry Yarbrough officiated.   .  

Beatrice Pearl Broniewski

Rutland: Beatrice Pearl Broniewski, age 74, died March 11, 2012, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

 Mrs. Broniewski was born in Rutland on January 31, 1938. She moved at an early age to Pittsfield, MA where she received her education graduating from Pittsfield (MA) High School. She afterwards moved to Waterbury, CT., where she met and married her husband; Frederick S. Broniewski, Sr. they were married in Brewster, NY, but made their home in Waterbury, CT. Mr. Broniewski predeceased her in 1991. She had worked for more than 20 years at, Southbury (CT) Training School. She retired in 1991 and moved to Rutland. She enjoyed puzzles, tending her lawn and gardens, both floral and veggie. She was an avid reader and was very involved in arts & crafts. She loved to play the slots at Foxwoods. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Unit #31 in Rutland and was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Elks Club.
Surviving are 3 daughters; Janice Bird of Benson, Marjorie Lebel of Plymouth, CT and Diane Demers of Watertown, CT, 1 son Frederick S. Broniewski of Naugatuck, CT, a sister Carolyn Skene of Huntington, CT. 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, an aunt, an uncle and many cousins. In addition to her husband she was also predeceased by a grandson; Michael Lebel.

 The graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, in Plymouth Notch Cemetery in Plymouth, VT.

 Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; The Vermont Lung Association, 372 Hurricane Lane, Williston, VT 05495.

Hazel Shedd Mohan

Brandon: Hazel Shedd Mohan, age 101, died March 14, 2012 at her home in Brandon.

 A funeral service “In Celebration of Her Life” will be conducted, Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 1PM in the Miller and Ketcham Funeral Home, 26 Franklin Street, Brandon.
Calling hours will be on Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 11AM until the hour of the funeral.

 A more complete obituary will be published in a later addition of this newspaper.
