When I spoke with Donna Perrin, veteran coach of the MUHS dance team, she wanted to let me know about five of her dance team members who are participating in their last season of high school dance.  It is a bittersweet time in their lives, going from what they know of everyday school activities and friends onto new adventures of perhaps college, travel or a job.  Honoring the dancers with a ceremony during a basketball halftime was the least Coach Donna could do.  Donna says, “I love all of the girls and am so proud to be able to coach them. They are amazing dancers with a rich volume of skills and desire and without all of that it would be nothing. They enrich me as a coach and I hope I give them back as much as they give to me.”

Donna Perrin has coached Sierra Grimes all four years of high school. “She was with me the first year I did JV team.  We would have practice with varsity and jv together. The Varsity girls would help work with the JV girls because there were too many girls to dance on one team and I didn’t want any of them to miss out. Sierra has a wonderful personality and is willing to give a piece all she can.”  Coach Donna speaks of Michelle Derosier who has also been with her for the whole 4 years; “She came onto dance team in her freshman year and was also part of the first jv team. She has been so committed. She has learned to take a [dance] piece home and she will work on it until she gets it.  She knows how to push herself and she has learned so much in the four years she has been on dance team.”

Regarding Bailee Desforges, “Bailee is a very talented dancer. She is one of the captains this year and has proven to be a strong leader. She knows when to step in and help someone out and be there if needed. Her dance experience and is a strong member of the team.”

“Ashley Meacham, came up to Varsity last year and she has been doing a great job. She works through old injuries that make things tough for her.  She has never quit anything.  She has overcome boundaries that have made her so strong and is a really great addition to the team,” Donna says.

Denisha Odell is one of the captains. Donna remarks, “She is another strong leader. She has been an asset to have on the varsity team. She knows how to make strong moves when she dances and is not afraid to play with facial gestures if needed. She knows when to step up also and I can count on her at any time.”  Donna went on to say “Cheyanne Vincent, who is also a captain and a strong dancer, on the works hard and is always  pushing.  Brooke Burlett is a senior who has danced with the varsity for several years and works hard to get the dances down and will always strive to hit every move with gusto and then there is Sydney Fernandez.  Sydney was on the team her sophomore year and took her junior year off then and came back to the team her senior year. She works hard and is a nice addition to the team.”

Good Luck girls in all of your many endeavors the future holds.  Keep on dancing!
