Ruth Evelyn Goddard

ORWELL— Ruth Evelyn Goddard, age 90, died Saturday, January 21, 2012, at her home in Orwell.

    Ms. Goddard was born in Castleton on June 7, 1921. She was the daughter of Silas and Martha (Fish) Goddard. She has been a resident of Orwell since 1941. She was graduated from Fair Haven High School, class of 1939. She received her Teacher’s Certificate from Castleton Normal School, Class of 1941. In her earlier years she had taught school in Hartland, Sudbury’s Burr Pond School, the Orwell Young School and later taught at The Orwell Village School until her retirement in 1965. She was a member of the Orwell Congregational Church where she sang in the church choir. She enjoyed gardening; both flowers and vegetable; day lilies were her favorite. She was an avid reader and loved sewing, embroidering and sunset’s. She was especially fond of her cats and was a dedicated Red Sox fan as well.

    Surviving is a brother Richard Goddard of Orwell, her niece and care provider; Arlene Batschelet of Orwell. Many other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her. In addition to her parents she was also predeceased by her sister Christine Nowlan and a brother Reginald Goddard.

    The funeral service was held on Friday, January 27, 2012, at the Orwell Congregational Church. The Rev. Tom Bridgeman, former pastor and now pastor at Grace Church Congregational, UCC in Pittsfield, MA officiated.

    The graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, in Mountain View Cemetery in Orwell.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to; Addison County Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.

   Arrangements are under the direction of the Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven.             

Eleanor C. Ketcham

SHREWSBURY, MA / BRANDON, VT - Eleanor C. Ketcham, age 95, died Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at her home in Shrewsbury, MA.

    Mrs. Ketcham was born in St. Benedict, PA on December 1, 1916. She was the daughter of Albert and Helen (Papish) Cebrat. On October 15, 1945 she married the late Arthur William Ketcham in New Orleans, LA.

     Surviving is a son Thomas William Ketcham of North Conway, NH, her daughters Joyce Ketcham-Jeffrey of Upton, MA and Judith Ketcham of Groton, MA, a sister Rosemary O’Brien of Idaho, a brother Daniel of NY and brother-in-law, Chester Ketcham of Brandon, VT. She also leaves behind three granddaughters. Jennifer Ketcham of Upton, MA, Charlene Ketcham Stone of Groton, MA and Andrea Walsh of Groton, MA and two great-granddaughters, Rachel and Sydney.

    A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon, VT. The Rev. Albert "Skip" Baltz, pastor was the celebrant.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Gaston L. Bilodeau

Middlebury— Gaston L Bilodeau, 82, of Middlebury, Vermont, formerly of Whiting died unexpectedly at home on Thursday January 26, 2012.

    He was born in Shoreham on September 21, 1929 the son of the late Aristide and Marie Louise (Bizier) Bilodeau.  

    Gaston was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a thirty-two year member of the Father Daley Council Knights of Columbus, of Middlebury.

    He owned and operated the Bilodeau farm in Whiting from 1959 until his retirement in 1998. While in Whiting he was also an active member of his community.  Gaston and his wife moved to Middlebury in 1993, he enjoyed wood working, gardening and was a jack-of-all-trades. He was very handy and enjoyed creating things to make tasks easier.  In his younger years he enjoyed snowmobiling and traveling, for the last eight years he has been a devoted caretaker to his loving wife.

    He was survived by his wife of 60 years, Pauline (Seguin) Bilodeau, who he was completely devoted to; their children, David and fiancé, Julie Benton, Lisette Ladd and husband, Charlie, Robert and wife, Shelley, Pierre and wife, Sue, Janine Levesque and husband, Mark , ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his brothers, Marcel, Firmain and wife, Clarice, Paul and wife, Judy, his sister, Louise Evarts and husband, George, his sisters-in-law, Rita Bilodeau and Anita Bilodeau, in-laws, Fernand and Ange-Aimee Martin and many nieces and nephews.  

    He was predeceased by their son, Michael, three brothers, Laval, Germain and Henry and sister- in- law, Carmen Bilodeau.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday January 31, 2012 at 11 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. William R. Beaudin, pastor, as celebrant.

    The family will receive friends on Monday January 30, 2012 from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home located at 117 South Main Street, Middlebury.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Addison County Home Health & Hospice at P.O. Box 754 Middlebury, VT 05753.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home.
