Robert Fred Elliott

CASTLETON— Robert Fred Elliott, age 68, died Monday, January 16, 2012, at his home in Castleton.

   Mr. Elliott was born in Proctor on February 6, 1943. He was the son of Rudolph and Mary (Ketcham) Elliott. He grew up in Warren and Sudbury. He received his early education in Warren schools and was graduated from Otter Valley Union High School, class of 1961. Following graduation he joined the United States Army. He served with the Combat Engineers in Viet Nam. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Vermont and began a career as a truck driver. He had driven truck for; Harold Fish and Gale Parmelee both Bulk Milk Haulers. He later drove for Goddard’s Trucking. He retired in 2009 following several years driving for St. Anne Transportation. He was a member of Castleton American Legion Post #31 and Brandon American Legion Post #55. he belonged to The Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed dancing, country music and family gatherings.

    Surviving is his son, Fred Elliott and his wife Debbie of Pittsford, a daughter Eugenie Coursey and her husband Frank of Charlottesville, VA, His companion, Glenda Coursey of Castleton, his siblings; Rudy Elliott of Warren, Jane Elliott of Manchester, NH, George Elliott of Proctor, Elsie Sherrill of Goshen, Betsy Elliott of Sausalito, CA, Debbie Eno of Warren, Kauren Stickney of Auburn, MA, Joe Elliott of Nantucket, MA and Roberta Elliott of Warren. 2 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him.

    The funeral service was held on Friday, January 20, 2012, at 10 AM, at the Brandon Baptist Church. The Rev. Robert Bove, pastor will officiate. The graveside committal service and burial, with military honors, will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.

   Following the ceremony the family will receive friends, at Brandon American Legion Post #55, for a time of fellowship & remembrance.

  Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to; The American Cancer Society, Vermont Chapter, 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495.

 Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Elizabeth Janice “Betty” Sherman

WESTMINSTER— Elizabeth Janice “Betty” Sherman, age 75, died Monday, January 16, 2012, at Springfield Hospital.

    Ms: Sherman was born in Wallingford, VT on July 9, 1936. She was the daughter of Willard and Nellie (Howard) Regimbald. She received her education in local Wallingford schools. She was a former resident of Brandon. In her earlier years she had worked as a waitress at various area restaurants. While residing in Brandon she had worked at The Yankee Kitchen. She had been a volunteer at the Maple Manor in Rutland. She moved to Westminster in 2010 to make her home with her daughter. She enjoyed walking and word puzzles, and loved animals.

    Surviving is 4 sons; Ralph Barber, Sr., of Westminster Station, Charles Sherwin of VT, James and Robert Sherman both of Brandon, 3 daughters; Rhonda Fitts; with whom she had made her home; of Westminster, Robin Hale of Rutland and Pamela Johnson of Brattleboro, 4 sisters; Marlene Patch of Wallingford, Mildred Ricketts of Benson, Ruth Macheski of Ctr. Rutland and Ann Jaggers of Rutland, a brother David Regimbald of Granville, NY. 16 Grandchildren, many great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Barber and her husband Edward Sherman. 5 brothers; John, Harry, Richard, Frederick and Willard Regimbald, Jr., and a grandson also predeceased her.

    The memorial service “In Celebration of Her Life” was held on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at 1 PM, at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

    A private graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, in Pine Hill Cemetery.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; The Rutland County Humane Society, 765 Stevens Road, Pittsford, VT 05763 or to the American Cancer Society, Vermont Chapter, 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
