MADELEINE BOURDON ANGIER

ADDISON/WILLISTON— Madeleine Bourdon Angier of Williston and formerly of Addison died peacefully at her home, in the presence of her loving family, on Christmas Day 2011. Madeleine was born in Pittsford on June 26, 1927, to Ernest and Juliette (Larocque) Bourdon.

Before marriage, she worked at Middlebury College and also in Montpelier for the State of Vermont. She married J. Francis Angier at St. Mary's Church in Middlebury on Jan, 4, 1947. Madeleine and Francis lived for 40 years on their farm in Addison where they raised five sons. They later lived in the mountains of western North Carolina, on the Sun-Coast of Florida, in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and, for the last nine years, in Williston.

With her warm and gracious demeanor, Madeleine made many, many friends while accompanying her husband on military assignments earlier in their marriage and later during her retirement years, when they traveled in their motor home throughout the country. All who knew her were touched by her kindness and inspired by her strong faith. Madeleine had a special place in her heart for those who were disadvantaged in any way and she was a longtime volunteer, helping to raise money for several charitable organizations. She frequently reminded people that life is short and that it is important to live it to the fullest while you can. Madeline is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Francis; and their sons, John of Williston, Michael (Dawn) of Spring Hill, Fla., Phillip (Debbie) of Panton, Pierre (Colleen) of St. Augustine, Fla., and Thomas of Leicester. She leaves nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by four sisters, Rachel (the late Greg) Codding, Laurie (John) Wetmore, Louise (Sandy) Seith, and Rena (Jack) Kindregan; and a brother, Andre (Betsy) Bourdon. Madeleine was predeceased by two sisters, Ange-Aimee Angier, who was married to Francis' late brother, Carl, and Marie (Don) Kenyon.

The family would like to acknowledge the outstanding care Madeleine received from various family members, VNA nurses, special friends, Karen, Bonnie, Ruth and Sue, as well as the prayers, visitations and gifts of cards, food, flowers and kind deeds from so many of you. Your compassion and sympathy gave our mother a little taste of Heaven during her last days on Earth and she was immensely grateful for all that you did for her, as are we. You were splendid examples of Jesus' teaching that: "As you did this for the least of your brethren, you did it for me." A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at her parish church, Immaculate Heart of Mary in Williston on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011.  A luncheon/reception was held following the Mass.  Memorial contributions in Madeleine's memory may be made to the VNA Hospice Program, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, VT 05446 or VT Right to Life (VRLC), P.O. Box 1079, Montpelier, VT 05601.
