Champlain Bridge Construction

photo provided

The Champlain Bridge was officially declared re-opened on Monday, November 7th 2011.  The official ribbon cutting ceremony drew a crowd of about a thousand people.  Lt. Governor Duffy of New York and Governor Shumlin of Vermont were on hand to represent their respective states now joined together once again in this vital transportation corridor.  Ted Zoli, the designer of the new Lake Champlain Bridge was also there to see his idea become a working reality.   Stanley Gee New York State Department of Transportation Executive Deputy Commissioner was also noticeably pleased to see traffic moving between the two states once again on a spectacular bridge.  Vermont Department of Transportation officials were also pleased to see the link completed on time and before the winter weather sets in.  Pictured above a Lake Champlain Ferry boat slowly navigates the channel under the new bridge as it heads for Burlington with a sister Ferry off its port stern quarter at dusk on Monday evening November 7th 2011.  Their jobs and mission completed.  The Lake Champlain Transportation Corp. under the direction of Ray Pecor kept this vital corridor open during construction of the bridge as did Mike Matott's Ti Cable Ferry to the south at Larabee's Point.  The new bridge is open and it has been a privileged covering the construction process here at The Valley Voice.  Special thanks to Co-op Insurance Companies for making our construction reports possible in these pages.
