Elizabeth “Betty” (Bellerjeau) Barbarise

BRANDON—Elizabeth “Betty” (Bellerjeau) Barbarise, age 95, died Sunday, October 30, 2011, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

    Mrs. Barbarise was born in Plainfield, NJ on February 11, 1916. She was the daughter of William and Anna (Randall) Bellerjeau. She was graduated from Scotch Plains, NJ High School, class of 1934. She earned her degree from Douglas College in New Brunswick, NJ, class of 1938. She worked a short time for a publishing company in New York City. She retired in 1981 after 30 years of service as an Executive Secretary with Magnus Chemical Company in New Jersey.

    She has been a resident of Brandon since 1981 moving here from Fanwood, NJ. Betty was a member of the Brandon Congregational Church. She shared her enthusiasm for birds and traveled extensively to see them. She was a life member of the Birds of Vermont Museum. She was an avid New England Patriots fan and a voracious reader. She volunteered at the Brandon Free Public Library, the Nifty Thrifty and the Brandon Senior Citizens. She was a former member of the Brandon Monday Club and the Garden Club. She was a devoted pet owner who loved all animals, nature, flowers and her extensive gardens.

    Surviving is her niece; Harriet Layton Bellerjeau of Brandon, 3 nephews; William Randall Bellerjeau of Altamont, NY, Paul Young Bellerjeau of Watsonville, CA and Richard Charles Bellerjeau of Woodstock, GA. Many grand nieces and grand nephews also survive her. Betty was predeceased by her husband Joseph Barbarise, January 6, 2001; they were married in Scotch Plains, NJ on April 5, 1972.

    The funeral service was held on Monday, November 7, 2011, at the Brandon Congregational Church. The Rev. Richard White, pastor will officiate. A private graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, in the family lot, at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to: Four Winds Nature Institute, for the Brandon Program, 4 Casey Road, Chittenden, VT 05737 or to the Brandon Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 232, Brandon, VT 05733.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Emily Louise Bruso

CORNWALL—Emily Louise Bruso, age 93, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Shard Villa in Salisbury.

 Mrs. Bruso was born in New London, NH on August 9, 1918. She was the daughter of Herman and Clara (Stetson) Messer. She grew up in New London and was graduated from New London High School, class of 1936. She earned her degree from Colby-Sawyer College, class of 1940. She had lived in Brattleboro where she did home care for the elderly. She married Willard Bruso in New London in 1945. She moved with her husband to the Bruso family farm in Cornwall following her marriage. In earlier years she worked at Porter Hospital and did private duty nursing. She retired in the early 1980’s from the Brandon Training School. She had cared for her ailing husband until his death in 1978. She enjoyed her flower gardens and was a great cook. She was a 75 year member of the Grange including, the Cornwall Grange, and Pomona Grange and was involved in the Vermont State Grange. She belonged to The Whiting Community Church.

 Surviving is her son and care provider; Richard Peter Bruso of Cornwall. Several cousins also survive her. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a sister, May Childs.

   The memorial service “In Celebration of Her Life” was held on Saturday, November 5, 2011,  at the Whiting Community Church. The Rev. Billy Jones, pastor and the Rev. Robert Mathis, former pastor will co-officiate.

    A private graveside committal service and burial preceded the ceremony, in the family lot, at Evergreen Cemetery in Cornwall.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; Shard Villa, 1177 Shard Villa Road, Salisbury, VT 05769.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Patrick Lee Tyler

LEICESTER JUNCTION— Patrick Lee Tyler, age 53, died November 3, 2011, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

    Mr. Tyler was born in Baltimore, MD on September 8, 1958. He was the son of Joseph and Pearle (Thompson) Tyler. He received his early education at St. Dominic’s Catholic School and was graduated from Northern High School, class of 1976 both in Baltimore, MD. Following his education he worked at Caltec Cable Co for several years. He had worked at Milton L. Lamp & Sons Construction in Baltimore, as well. He moved to Vermont in 1990 and work at Middlebury Construction for several years. He had worked as a carpenter at Naylor & Breen in Brandon until illness forced his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

    Surviving is his care provider of 8 years, Crystal Sears of Leicester Junction, 2 sons; Joseph Patrick Tyler of Baltimore, MD and Matthew Charbonneau of Clarendon, VT, 2 step-sons; Shawn Sears of Springfield and Jason Dukette & his friend Heather Pollard of Leicester. A special grandson; Ethan Dukette and special granddaughter Kayla Sears and friend Jeff Freegard and great granddaughter Eliza Freegard, and special friends; Kenneth Dukette and Charlie & Sherry Fay. He was predeceased by his brother Greg Tyler and a stepson Willy Dukette and step daughter Tina “Sissy” Dukette.

    The memorial service “In Celebration of His Life” will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011, at 10 AM, at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The Rev. Richard White, pastor of the Brandon Congregational Church will officiate. The graveside committal service and burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery in Leicester.

     Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory to; the Brandon Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 232, Brandon, VT.

 Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Kathleen Marie Mitchell

BRANDON— Kathleen Marie Mitchell, age 79, died November 3, 2011, at her home in Brandon.

     Mrs. Mitchell was born in Elmont, NY on June 26, 1932. She was the daughter of Fred and Helen (Howkenberger) Weinle. She received her early education in local Elmont schools. March 15, 1950 she married Gerald “Cooney” Mitchell in Middlebury. They made their home in Brandon where she raised her family. Mr. Mitchell predeceased her June 25, 1991. She enjoyed playing bingo, collecting miniature elephants and playing scrabble. She was a member of Life Bridge Church in Brandon. Her greatest love was for her family. Her family was her life.

    Surviving are 4 daughters; Debbie Oberkirch and her husband Rick of Brandon; with whom she had made her home, Sally Mitchell-Forrest of Pittsford, Geraldine “Gerry” Kenny of Brandon and Lori J. Gutzmann & her husband Chip of Brandon, 2 sons Steven Mitchell & his wife Mary Mitchell and Andrew Orin “Andy” Mitchell & his wife Becky all of Brandon, 2 brothers Donald H. Weinle of Baltimore, MD and Robert F. Weinle of San Francisco, CA.18 grandchildren, 8 great grandson, a special sister-in-law; Theresa Mitchell and several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. In addition to her husband she was also predeceased by 2 brothers; Richard Weinle and Nord Rounds.

    The memorial service  “In Celebration of Her Life” will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at 10 AM, at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The Rev. Roger Foster will officiate. A private graveside committal service and burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon.

    Following the ceremony the family will receive friends at the home of Steve & Mary Mitchell, for a time of fellowship & remembrance.
