Helen May Mills

BRANDON— Helen May Mills, age 79, died Saturday, October 15, 2011, at her home in Brandon.

    Mrs. Mills was born in Sunderland on December 13, 1931. She was the daughter of Harold and Irene (Belcher) Jennings. Helen was graduated from Arlington High School, class of 1949. She afterwards attended Randolph Hospital School of Nursing earning her R.N. class of 1952. She worked a short time at the hospital before her marriage to Philip Ernest Mills. They were married in Arlington on May 1, 1954. They made their home in Rochester where she did private duty nursing. After moving to Middlebury in 1956, Mrs. Mills worked at Porter Hospital. From 1968 until retiring in 1993 she was the office nurse for Dr. Clark Bryant. She had been a member of the United Methodist Church in Middlebury, where she taught Sunday school. She had been a Girl Scout Leader for several years. She and her husband moved to Brandon in 1990. She was a volunteer at the Brandon Thrift Shop for many years. She enjoyed knitting and sewing.

    Surviving is her daughter Jane Pinson and her husband Ray of Brandon, 2 sons Gary S. Mills of Brandon and Michael S. Mills of New Haven. 7 grandchildren: Jeremiah and Bryan Mills, Stefanie Mills, Danielle and Kaylee Pinson, Shaun and Bailey Mills. Several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband Philip Mills on December 9, 2010, a brother Kenneth Jennings and a sister Elizabeth Minasi and her daughter in law; Deborah Mills on March 31, 2011.

    The memorial service “In Celebration of Her Life” was held on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at 10 AM, at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.  Gary Stanley, a family friend will officiate. The graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph.
