Wednesday, September 28th marked a milestone in the Platt Memorial Library capital campaign and building project. After ten years of researching, planning and fundraising, ground was broken at the site of the new library addition. Community members, Ms. Logan’s first grade class, and library and construction representatives were on hand to applaud as Shoreham resident Rene Saenger dug the ceremonial first shovel full of earth at the construction site. Library Board member Judy Stevens noted that “Rene won a door prize at a library informational meeting several years ago giving her the honor of using the golden shovel. We made sure that Rene would be available to do the honors, and she didn’t disappoint!" At the groundbreaking ceremony, Library Trustee Shannon Bohler-Small said that “those deserving thanks for the project’s success are more than can be mentioned at this moment. But we know for sure that these first grade children represent much of what this expansion is all about.”
Naylor & Breen Builders of Brandon have been hired to build the addition. The new space is expected to be up and running by the spring. Fundraising will continue on into the winter to provide funds for interior finishing and furnishings.
