Ruby Carolyn Crowe Parent

ORWELL - Ruby Carolyn Crowe Parent, age 80, died peacefully, at her home in Orwell on Wednesday, July 13, 2011.

    Mrs. Parent was born in Middlebury on June 8, 1931. She was the daughter of Harold J. and Ethel Sterling (Boardman) Crowe. She was graduated from Middlebury High School, class of 1949. Following her graduation she moved to Burlington where she worked in a local office. There she met her future husband; Marcel A. Parent. On May 23, 1953 she and Marcel were married in St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Orwell. Mr. Parent predeceased her April 20, 2004. They shared a successful life on their dairy farm, where they raised their six children. She was active in her community and school events. She had been a 4-H Leader; she belonged to Ethan Allen Snow Travelers Club, and St. Paul’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching.

    Surviving is her children; Janice & Roger Rochon of Benson, Ronald Parent & Shirley Bowen of Orwell, Shirley & Rob Ryan of Orwell, Margaret Hanson & Peter Preseau of Sudbury, Joyce & Andy Savage of Hartford and Evelyn & Kyle Bushey New Haven. Her sister Marilyn Dupoise and her family of Weybridge, with whom she shared many years of happy memories. Grandchildren; Sharon & Kevin Clark, Wayne and Amanda Rochon, Michele Parent, Shannon & Todd Babbie, Crystal & Jim Bennick, Chris Washburn, Alan & Trish Parent, Brian Hanson, Chris Hanson, David Hanson and Laura English, Corinne & Doug Blair, April Savage & Brent Johnson, Nichole Bushey & Alex Smith, Megan Bushey, Amanda Ryan, Sarah & Chad Hanlin and Jonathan Ryan. 17 Great Grandchildren; Kaitlyn & Brianna Clark, Jaron & Caiden Rochon, Carson & Riley Babbie, Taegan & Alyza Washburn, Reece & Isaac Hanlin, Jordan, Devin and Chloe Hanson, Olivia Paige, Miley Turner-English, William and Olivya Blair.

    She was a wonderful wife and mother, sister and grandmother, who taught her entire family the importance of independence and character. She was very proud, hard working and generous.

    A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Orwell. The Rev. Henry Furman, pastor was the celebrant. The graveside committal service and burial followed, in the family lot, at St. Genevieve Cemetery in Shoreham.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; The Orwell First Response Squad, c/o Peter Ochs, 37 Needham Hill Road, Orwell, VT or to The Orwell Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Louis Hall, 178 Rte. 73, Orwell, VT 05760.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven.
