Margery Aileen (Plue) Young

ORWELL - Margery Aileen (Plue) Young, age 97, died peacefully on Monday, July 4, 2011, at her home in Orwell.

    Mrs. Young was born in Orwell on October 16, 1913. She was the daughter of Charles Allen and Elizabeth (Bascom) Plue. She received her early education at Hough School in Orwell and graduated from Rutland High School, class of 1930. She afterwards graduated from Middlebury College, class of 1934, earning her degree in Math Education. She taught for several years before marrying the love of her life, Robert D. Young, on September 5, 1936. They made their home in Orwell where she raised her 5 sons. Mr. Young predeceased her September 24, 2006. They had just celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary. After raising her family, Margery returned to the workforce as an officer of the First National Bank of Orwell. She and her husband retired in 1979 and spent many happy years wintering in Delray Beach, Florida. They had enjoyed their camp on Lake Hortonia since 1946. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Orwell and of the Orwell Fortnightly Club. She enjoyed cooking and gardening.

    Surviving are 4 of her sons: Robert C. Young & his wife Kathryn of Burlington, Roger S. Young & his wife Dale, Peter B. Young & his wife Barbara and Mark S. Young & his wife Susan, all of Orwell. 18 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren also survive her. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Kenneth Plue, in 1926, a granddaughter, Cheryl Young, in 1961, her son, Bruce H. Young, in 2003 and his wife, Rosalind (Baker) Young, in 1993.

    A memorial service in celebration of her life was held on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at The First Congregational Church in Orwell. The Rev. Thomas Eddy, a long time family friend, officiated. A private graveside committal service and burial preceded the service, in the family lot, at Mountain View Cemetery in Orwell.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made in her memory to The First Congregational Church of Orwell, c/o Sharon Fletcher, Treasurer, 54 Daigneault Hill Road, Orwell, VT 05760.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Eileen Bodette

EAST MIDDLEBURY - Eileen E. Bodette, 70, a longtime resident of East Middlebury, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Porter Hospital.

    Born in New Haven, CT June 9, 1941, she was the daughter of the Thomas and Mary (Okoniewski) O’ Kunieski.  

    Eileen  attended high school for three years in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and graduated from Aberdeen High School, Aberdeen, MD.  She attended Hartford Community Collegein MD.  She met her husband Davis, in Tehran, Iran when he was serving in the United States Army there.

    She  was a member of the East Middlebury Fire District #1 Auxillary.  

    Eileen was a history buff.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  

    Surviving family members include her husband, Davis L. Bodette of East Middlebury whom she married March 3, 1962; her mother Mary O’Kunieski of Baldwin, MD, two sons, Davis L. Bodette, Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Milton and Thomas L. Bodette and his wife Leslie of East Middlebury; one sister, Mary F. Kniep of Lutherville, MD; six grandchildren, Amanda C. Bodette, Thomas L. Bodette, Jr., Davis L. Bodette III, Austin R. Bodette, Olivia DeCarr and Jessie L. Bodette; a niece, Tasha Kniep..

    She was predeceased by her father, Thomas O’Kunieski.

    Graveside services were conducted Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Prospect Cemetery, East Middlebury with the Rev. Leonard Rowell, officiating.

    The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495.

Julie S. Keeler

 

Middlebury - On Saturday, July 2, 2011 Julie Sofia Kolbus Keeler died peacefully surrounded by her family at the ARCH Room at Helen Porter Nursing Home.  Julie was born February 16, 1920, the youngest child of Frank and Zofia (Dziedzic) Kolbus.  Julie graduated from Williamstown High School in Williamstown, Massachusetts in 1939. On October 18, 1941, she married Donald Martin Keeler in Bristol, Vermont who predeceased her in March 1983.

    Julie was with the school lunch program at St. Mary’s School for eight years in Middlebury, and then became the Food Service Director at Middlebury Union High School until 1963.  From 1963 until 1983 she was a nutritionist for the ENFP program, which was a government program under the Extension Program at the University of Vermont.  

    Julie was very active in many organizations which included:  Catholic Daughters, both her local Court Assumption and the State Court, of which she served as Regents for both. She was an Associate of the Sisters of Mercy in Burlington.  Julie volunteered at Porter Hospital, the RSVP Program and was a member of the Russ Sholes Senior Center. Julie was especially proud of her work as a “Sew-Sew Girl”.  As a community member she served on the board of the Middlebury Recreation Council and the CVAA.  

    Julie was an avid sports fan and was awarded a varsity letter for being tackled on the sidelines at an MUHS football game.  In 1958, she along with two other football mothers, established the annual football banquet at MUHS, which continues to be a long standing tradition.  

    From 1967 to present, she loved her special time at her cottage on Lake Dunmore.  There, she enjoyed watching her family grow and share her love for the lake.

    Julie is survived by her three children: Donald Keeler and wife Kathy, Judy Nuceder and husband David, Mary Jane Quesnel and husband Roger; six grandchildren: Karen White and husband Stephen, Michael Keeler and wife Terri, Amy Cousino and husband Scott, Nicole Bartlett and husband Derek, Andrea Rubright and husband Brett, John Nuceder and wife Jennifer.  Thirteen great grandchildren: Kayla Quesnel-Cousino, Steel White, Trevor Emilo, Rachel Keeler, Keenan Bartlett, Allison White, Lauren Bartlett, Brooke Rubright, Alexis and Kamrin Bartlett, Bode Rubright, Luke and Levi Nuceder.  She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and two brothers William and Benjamin Kolbusz, as well as her sisters Grace Boulais, Bertha Spicer, Frances Jeffers, Helene Kolbus, and Janice Coyne.

    A mass of Christian burial was held at St. Mary’s Church of the Assumption on Thursday, July 7, 2011, with the Rev. Justin Baker as the celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary’s cemetery in Middlebury.
