Carolyn Ellen English

BRANDON - Carolyn Ellen English, age 95, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at her home in Brandon.

    Mrs. English was born in New York City on November 26, 1915. She was the daughter of Charles Stewart and Tallulah (Pembleton) Bertholf. She moved with her family to Brandon in 1927. She was a graduate of Brandon High School, class of 1933. In her earlier years she had worked as a secretary at the Ayrshire Breeders Association. She later worked in the public school system in the hot lunch program until her children graduated. She then worked as a secretary at the Brandon Training School until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of The Brandon Congregational Church. She was an avid reader and was a wonderful homemaker and cook. She enjoyed playing golf and was a member of The Neshobe Golf Club.

    Surviving is her husband Stanton “Stan” English of Brandon; whom she married in Brandon on November 12, 1943, 1 daughter Eileen Vaillancourt of Midland, MI and a son Steven English & his wife Nancy of Thornton, CO. 3 grandchildren; Allison Telgenhoff, Matt English and Raylene Pinney, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces , nephews & cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her brother Harold Bertholf.

    The funeral service was held on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at the Brandon Congregational Church. The Rev. Richard White, pastor officiated. The graveside committal service and burial followed the ceremony in Pine Hill Cemetery.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
