Philip “Joe” Wallace Euber, Jr.

BRANDON - Philip “Joe” Wallace Euber, Jr., age 70, died Sunday, April 17, 2011, at his home in Brandon.

    Mr. Euber was born in Leicester on October 29, 1940. He was the son of Philip W. and Marguerite (Parker) Euber, Sr. He received his early education in local Leicester schools. In his earlier years he had worked as a logger and woodsman. He later moved to Brattleboro where he farmed. He returned to Brandon in 2000 following the death of his wife Wilma. He enjoyed fishing, playing his guitar and singing.

    Surviving is his companion and soul mate Sally Jestice of Brandon, 1 daughter Michele Y. Blake of Brattleboro, 4 sons Vincent Euber of Brandon, Stacey Euber of Bellows Falls, Jamie Euber of Forestdale and Glen Euber of Brattleboro, a sister Frances Allaire of Brandon. 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his wife Wilma (Cram) Euber, a son Philip W. Euber, III., 3 sisters; Louise Fitzgerald, Esther Euber and Beatrice Curtis and 2 brothers Sidney Euber and Robert Euber.

    The funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The Rev. John McDonald, pastor of the Forestdale Wesleyan Church officiated. A private burial will take place, at a later date in Forestdale Cemetery.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory to The Brandon Area Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 232, Brandon, VT 05733.

WALTER  PECK

MIDDLEBURY- Walter E. Peck, 84, a resident of Middlebury for many years, died Sunday, April 17, 2011 at his home with his wife and his caregivers by his side.

    Born in Middlebury November 1, 1926, he was the son of the late Walter E., Sr. and Margaret (Payment) Peck.  

    Walt grew up on the Peck family farm in New Haven where he attended the Beeman Academy.  During WWII, at the age of 17, he left the Green Mountain State to serve in the United States Army, where he was sent to the island of Okinawa. After the war he returned to Middlebury where he worked as an auto body repairman.  He then worked for 14 years for Central Vermont Public Service.  Walt left CVPS to become an electrician under the supervision of Walter Calhoun.  In 1968 he started Walter Peck Electric Inc. which he owned and operated until 1985. In 1990 he sold his business to his son, Glen.  

    Walt was a member of the East Middlebury United Methodist Church where he volunteered his time and talents for many church projects.

    Walt was lifelong avid hunter. He hunted deer in the mountains of Maine, Montana, Colorado, Ohio, Ontario, Vermont and New York.  He lived for both the hunt and a good hunting story. He enjoyed the camaraderie of others, had a quick, sharp sense of humor and was good natured in his relationships. Even in his decline he continued to connect with his buddies from his years at CVPS by attending coffee hour on Friday mornings at Rosie’s.

    Surviving family members include his wife, Jean (Norton) Peck whom he married September 19, 1953, two sons, Glen D. Peck and his wife Lynne of Weybridge and W. Reid Peck and his wife Crystal Jackson of Weybridge; one brother, Charles H. Peck of Burlington; one sister, Jean Cyr of Middlebury; three grandchildren, Lauren Peck, Nathan Peck and Sky Jackson; several nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian Bromley and Elizabeth Peck.

    There will be no calling hours.

    A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 on Wednesday April 27, 2011 at the New Haven Congregational Church with the Rev. Ed Hilbert and Rev. Jill Robinson presiding. Burial with military honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven.  

    The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Addison County Home Healthcare and Hospice, P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753 or Elderly Services, Inc. 112 Exchange Street, Middlebury, VT 05753.

CATHERINE  MENARD

Middlebury - Catherine A. Menard, 96, a longtime resident of Shoreham, died Monday, April 18, 2011 at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

    Born in Rochester August 9, 1914, Catherine was the daughter of the late Edgar P. and Bessie (Gokey) Akey.

    Catherine was a graduate of Mount St. Mary High School and attended Trinity College in Burlington and Burlington Business College.  

    She was a homemaker for many years, and served as Shoreham Town Treasurer and Assistant Town Clerk.

    Catherine was a member and organist of St. Genevieve’s Catholic Church.

    Surviving family members include one son, Dwight Menard and his wife Kanyarat of Shoreham; two daughters, Cynthia M. Brush and her husband, Howard “Skip” of Middlebury and Allison M. Dayton and her husband Donald of Middlebury; six grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren;  four sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews.

    She was predeceased by her husband Ralph E. Menard who died in 1987, by a sister, Dorothea Akey and five brothers, John, Donald, Kenneth, James and Robert Akey.

    There will be no calling hours.

    A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Monday, April 25, 2011 at St. Genevieve’s Church, Shoreham with the Rev. William R. Beaudin as celebrant.  

    Burial will follow in St. Genevieve’s Cemetery, Shoreham.

    Memorial donations may be made to St. Genevieve’s Catholic Church or the Harp Therapy, Program, Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, 30 Porter Drive, Middlebury, VT 05753.

Ronald Clifford Barker

BRANDON - Ronald Clifford Barker, age 63, died Saturday, April 16, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Barker was born in Proctor on March 10, 1948. He was the son of Robert and Georgianna (Bushey) Barker. He received his education at MSJ in Rutland. He had driven truck for many years for Wilson Trucking until being forced to retire due to ill health in 1991. He belonged to the Loyal Order of The Moose in Rutland. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing bingo and camping. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ann (Taggart) Barker of Brandon; whom he married in Rutland on July 16, 1966, one son Ronald C. Barker, Jr., of Brandon, 4 daughters Tina Hagen and her husband Don of Rutland, Christine Balch and her husband George of Bomoseen, Melissa Bassette and her husband Terry of Brandon and Michelle Rowe and her husband John also of Brandon, 2 brothers Robert Barker, Jr., of Fair Haven and Edward Barker, Sr., of Rutland. 11 grandchildren; Tiffany Swan, Meranda, Derek & Katelyn Bassette, Eric, Jeremy & Tyler Rowe, Ronald III, Ryan & Josh Barker, and his best friend Bob Johnson. He was predeceased by a grandson Aaron Rowe.     A private memorial service “In Celebration of His Life” will be held, at a later date, at Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The Rev. Albert “Skip” Baltz, pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church will officiate.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory to; The Rutland Area Visiting Nurse & Hospice, 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701.             Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Bonnie Jean Lackard

WEYBRIDGE - Bonnie Jean Lackard, age 74, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at her home in Weybridge.

    Mrs. Lackard was born in Middlebury on September 17, 1936. She was the daughter of Milo and Irene (French) Masterson. She was graduated from Middlebury High School, class of 1955. In her earlier years she had worked as a waitress at the Middlebury Inn, Palmer’s Dairy Bar, Rosie’s and The Waybury Inn. She later owned and operated Lackard’s Service Station in Middlebury. She was also the bookkeeper for the other family business, Lackard’s Auto Body Shop. She loved all outdoor activities, especially fishing. She was an avid quilter and gardener. Sandra Button did an interview about her quilting which is in the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. She enjoyed playing cards and collecting everything that had an Owl theme. Her family was her life.

    Surviving is her husband Ernest Lackard of Weybridge; whom she married in Vergennes on May 17, 1957, 2 daughters Pam Randall & her husband Bill, Kathy Stiffler & her husband Tony all of Ripton, 2 sons Danny Lackard & his wife Cathy of Leicester, John Lackard & his wife Lisa of Middlebury, Her mother Irene Masterson and a sister Sheila Rheaume both of East Middlebury. 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her sister, Joyce McGettrick and a granddaughter Danielle Lackard.

    A private memorial service, “In Celebration of Her Life”, will be held at the convenience of the family.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; The Addison County Humane Society, 236 Boardman Street, Middlebury, VT 05753.
