WomenSafe is pleased to announce that Klara Calitri’s artwork, Spring Fugue, will grace the 2011 Mother’s Day card in the 10th Annual Local Women Artist Series.

Klara has considered Vermont her chosen home since coming to Trinity College in 1940. She earned her B.A. at UVM and Masters Degree at Cornell University. While pursuing her Doctoral Studies at Columbia University she spent much of her time teaching languages and history at Columbia, College of the City of New York and a number of high schools. During that time she also became a professional artist.

Her work in ceramics, pastels, monotypes and oils has been shaped by a variety of influences, including her childhood surroundings in Vienna, Austria, the work of the Wiener Werkstätte and Impressionism. Her present works reflect the light and mood of the beautiful Vermont landscapes, orchards and gardens filtered through her unique cultural background. Her
knowledge of art in other lands is brought forth in the variety of her murals and other ceramic creations.

Klara Calitri paints at her home in Cornwall where she lives with her husband “Junie,” their two cats and her beautiful amaryllises. Klara’s love of nature and her peaceful spirit are felt the minute you walk into her home surrounded by her paintings and tile murals of gardens, flowers, and landscapes. Her exquisite artwork can also be found glazed into bowls, platters, plates, tiles and fountains. She is honored that President Clinton purchased one of her bowls when attending the National Governors’ Conference in Burlington in 1995. United States Senator Patrick Leahy, owner of some of her works, has exhibited one of her three-dimensional creations on his government web site and the original has been on display in his U.S. Senate office in Washington D.C.

Your mother or other special someone can enjoy Klara Calitri’s Spring Fugue, while in her honor you are helping those women who may not be safe this Mother’s Day. Just send a donation to WomenSafe at P.O. Box 67, Middlebury, VT 05753 along with the name and address of your chosen honoree. WomenSafe will then acknowledge your gift by sending them this beautiful card.
