GRACE  WARNER

MIDDLEBURY -  Grace Slinn Warner, 102, a longtime resident , died Sunday, April 6, 2011 at Shard Villa following a brief illness.

    Born in Nyack, NY October 4, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Jean (Allan) Slinn.  

    As a member of a highly respected family, she worked for various families in this area.  She enjoyed cooking, embroidery, and needlepoint.  She enjoyed her independence until January of this year when she moved to Shard Villa. Grace will always be remembered for her quick wit and ready response.

    Surviving family members include her daughter, Marianna W. D’Avino and her husband Dominic of Brooklyn, NY; one brother, Grant Z. Slinn of Bennington; one sister, Virginia Luddy of Waterbury, CT.

    She was predeceased by her husband, Stanton A. “Jim” Warner who died in 1970 and by brothers and sisters.

    Private graveside committal services will be conducted later in the spring at Weybridge Hill Cemetery, Weybridge.

    Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

    Arrangements are under the direction of Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, Middlebury.

Edwin Julian Pond

BRANDON - A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, for Joyce Elaine Pond, age 83 who died April 8, 2011 and her husband Edwin Julian Pond, age 86, who died 85 hours later, on April 11, will be celebrated on Monday, April 18, at 10 AM, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon. The Rev. Albert “Skip” Baltz, pastor will be the celebrant. A private graveside committal service and burial will follow, in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

    Following the ceremony the family will receive friends, at Brandon American Legion Post #55, for a time of fellowship & remembrance.

    Joyce was born in Brandon on December 27, 1927. She was the daughter of Raymond “Snuffy” and Florence (LaRock) Reed, Sr. She was a graduate of Brandon High School. April 24, 1948 she and Eddie were married, in St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Forestdale. Joyce had worked at Rollers by Baker in Forestdale while raising her family. She later worked at Dowty Electronics in Brandon until suffering a stroke. For the past 28 years she has persevered dealing with her health issues, while being the rock of her family and sharing courage, love and humor with all. She was a communicant at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

    Eddie was born in Malone, New York on April 6, 1925. He was the son of Clarence and M. Agnes (Cardinal) Pond. Eddie grew up in Brandon and received his education in Brandon schools. In his earlier years he had worked as a Mechanic at Johnson’s Garage in Brandon. He was a veteran of WW II, having served in The United States Navy. Following his Honorable Discharge in 1946 he returned home and worked as a Logger and Woodsman, for his father-in-law. He later worked at General Mills, Racine Tower, Dutton’s Sawmill, C.V.P.S. and Wyman-Frasier Sawmill. He afterwards worked as a self-employed Heavy Equipment Mechanic until his retirement. He was a past member of Brandon American Legion Post #55.

    Surviving are their children; Reed F. Pond of Rutland, Shelley Brown and her husband Bill of Lake Dunmore, Melanie Greeno and her husband Bernie of Pittsford, Valarie Stewart and her husband Pete of East Pittsford and Laurie Barrows of Orwell, and their grandchildren; Jared Stewart, Pete Steward, Jr., Derek Stewart, Connor Brown, Anneliase Brown, Amanda Greeno, Jillian Greeno, Paula Barrows Brown, Kristina Barrows and great grandchildren; Zachary Stewart, Colby Atwood, Mason Stewart and Jordan Brown, Jr. Joyce is also survived by a sister Joanne Lanoue of Orleans. Eddy is survived by a brother Douglas Pond of Pittsford.

    Joyce was predeceased by 2 brothers Raymond “Sonny” Reed, Jr., and William “Billy” Reed and aunts; Evelene Reed, Ada Trombley and a granddaughter Meredith Elaine Greeno. Eddie was predeceased by a sister June Haag and a brother Gerald Pond.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in their memory to; The Meals on Wheels Program, c/o Andy Haskell, 1085 US Rte. 4, Suite 2-B, Rutland, VT 05701, or Relay for Life, c/o Valarie Stewart, 175 Shadow Lane, Pittsford, VT 05763.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
