There are very few events each year that bring together the power and scope of all students in the ANWSU district, but when they occur they are magical. On April 12th and 13th, the high school gymnasium came alive with projects reflecting the theme of “A World for Sustainable Art. Over a two day period hundreds of students from around the district came and toured the exhibit. Enhancing the art projects were presentations by the music departments and included bands and chorus. Each person that came had their own favorite and each person took away from the experience something new and dynamic.

VUHS freshman Brittany Din remarked, “The very best was the butterfly. It had the most detail, color and drew you into the painting. The rainforest sounds also make you feel like you are not in a gym, but yet on a trip through a tropical rainforest.”

VUHS senior Tyler remarked, “My favorite was a piece called fish. The student used limited resources and limited time, but created a memorable final piece of art. It was simple, but stood out.”

VUHS senior Greg Alexopoulos commented, “I was intrigued by the paintings that revolved around political ideas. They were really well done and I enjoy art that stimulates and provokes thoughts.”

With so much to see and reflect on, the two day event reinforces the power of the fine arts programs in ANWSU and the simple fact that art brings people together, bridges language barriers and offers a tool for communicating that needs no further introduction or explanation. Valley Voice salutes the arts in all forms!
