Obituaries 3-22-11

ALBERTA WOOD

SHOREHAM- Alberta J. Wood, 87, a resident of Shoreham since 1972, died Monday, March 14, 2011 at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation.  

    Born in Craftsbury Common, VT May 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Cyrus R. and Viola (Hesseltine) Johnson.  

    Alberta was a graduate of West High School, Manchester, NH, class of 1942 and Keene State Teachers College, class of 1946.  She taught Home Economics in the Weare and Goffstown, NH school system for four years.

    Initially she and her husband operated a dairy and chicken farm and roadside stand in Candia, NH and in 1972, they bought a larger farm in Shoreham, VT.  The love of her life was nurturing and encouraging her family.  As hobbies she enjoyed cooking, sewing and knitting.  

    Alberta was a member of the South Main St. Congregational Church of Manchester.  She was also a member of the Golden Circle of Keene State College and the order of Eastern Star of Derry, NH.

    Surviving family members include one son, Loren C. Wood and his wife Gail of Shoreham; one daughter Sonya W. Barber and her husband Brian of Shoreham; seven grandchildren, Lee Wood, Leslie Wood and his wife Heather , Lance Wood and his wife Kristi of Shoreham , Loren “LJ” Wood Jr. and his fiancée Jamie Burnham of Orwell, Tara Barber, Trevor Barber, and Travis “Gunther” Barber all of Shoreham and; three great grandchildren, Jordan Wood, Kaitlin Wood, and Ava Wood;  and a nephew, Warren Pillsbury of Derry, NH.

    Alberta was predeceased by her husband, Leslie C. Wood who died March 3, 2001,  by a daughter, Jada A. Wood in 1995, a sister Goldie Whitcomb and a niece Jean Pillsbury.  

    There will be no calling hours or services.  She has donated her remains to the University of  Vermont College of Medicine.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Addison County Home Healthcare and Hospice, P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.  

    Arrangements are under the direction of Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 S. Main St. Middlebury.

Margaret Elaine Lonergan

 

BRANDON - Margaret Elaine Lonergan, age 62 died on St. Patrick’s Day, 2011, at her home in Brandon.

    Ms: Lonergan was born in Brandon on September 26, 1948. She has been a life long Brandon resident. She received her education in Brandon Schools. In her earlier years she had worked in the housekeeping department at the Brandon Motor Lodge. She later worked for several various are families doing housekeeping and light gardening. She enjoyed birding, gardening, cross stitching and rug making. She loved Genealogy and taking long walks. She was a member of The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, The Fleet Reserve Association Auxiliary and The D.A.V. Ladies Auxiliary. She was a communicant at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon.

    Surviving is her mother Harriette Goodnow and her sister Joyce Harris both of Gales Ferry, CT, and her care provider Steven Berry of Brandon. 1 niece and many cousins also survive her.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 21, 2011, at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon. The Rev. Albert “Skip” Baltz, pastor will be the celebrant. Entombment will follow the mass at Pine Hill Cemetery’s Receiving Vault, where the graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; The Rutland Area Visiting Nurse & Hospice, 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701.

Lloyd Hugh “Ted” LaRock

 

FORESTDALE - Lloyd Hugh “Ted” LaRock, age 96, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

     Mr. LaRock was born in Brandon on July 22, 1914. He was the son of Albert and Grace (Blair) LaRock. He began his early education in a one room school house in Sudbury. He continued his education in Brandon schools. He had worked for Babbit’s Garage in Rutland as a mechanic prior to enlisting in the military. He was a veteran of the WW II era having served in The United States Army Air Force. He served as an Air Craft Mechanic Instructor and Flight Engineer, logging numerous hours in the air. He trained men to work on the B-24 Bomber. He had also done a tour, for the Army Air Force to sell War Bonds. Following his Honorable Discharge he returned home and worked as an Automotive Mechanic, for Ed Crosby Garage in Brandon. He had owned and operated LaRock’s Trucking for many years. He had co-owned and operated Wood Chuck Lumber Company with the late Roger Bird. He had also driven school bus for several years. He became an avid golfer following his retirement. He was a member of Neshobe Golf Club where he helped build the clubhouse.  Over the years he was Club Champion 3 times and still holds the club record for his 3 holes in one. He was a member of Brandon American Legion Post #55 and St. Paul’s Masonic Lodge #25 F. & A.M. He belonged to Grace Episcopal Church in Forestdale.

    Surviving is 4 sons; David LaRock of Brandon, Mike LaRock of Ware, NH, Dennis LaRock of New Orleans, LA and Joel LaRock of Forestdale. 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 5 great, great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his wife Sadie LaRock in April 2008; whom he married in Nashville, TN on June 16, 1943, a son Lloyd H. LaRock, Jr, 5 brothers Walter “Duffer” LaRock, Herbert “Bubby” LaRock, Allen LaRock, Wallace “Polly” LaRock and Bernard “Jimmy” LaRock and 4 sisters Dorothea Pratt, Evelyn Spellman, Beverly Hayward and Neta LaRock.

    The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at 11 AM, at Grace Episcopal Church in Forestdale. The Rev. Margaret Fletcher, Rector will officiate. The graveside committal service and burial, with Military Honors, will take place, at a late date, in Forestdale Cemetery.

    Following the ceremony the family will receive friends in the church hall, for a time of fellowship & remembrance.

    Friends may call at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon on Monday, March 21, from 6-8 PM.
