Dorothy Florence Sutherland

BRANDON - Dorothy Florence Sutherland, age 92, died Saturday, February 26, 2011, surrounded by her family, at her home in Brandon.

    Mrs. Sutherland was born in Allendale, NJ on May 1, 1918. She was the only daughter of Bertram and Florence (Darrow) Sneden. She received her early education in Allendale and Waldwick (NJ) schools and was graduated from Ramsey (NJ) High School. October 24, 1936 she married Albert L. Sutherland, Sr., in Airmont, NY, who predeceased her in 2002. She has been a resident of Brandon since 1971, moving with her husband and family, from Allendale, NJ. She was a member of the Brandon Congregational Church from the time she moved to Brandon. She had been active in church affairs, having served in many capacities, including; The Women’s Fellowship and Couples Club. She enjoyed attending Bone Builders. She loved the outdoors, walking her property and enjoying nature.

    Surviving is her daughter Jane K. Shaw and her husband Jeffry of Fridley, MN, 4 sons Albert L. Sutherland, Jr., and his wife Marel-Lee of Mahwah, NJ, David P. Sutherland and his wife Tonia of Hendersonville, NC, Philip J. Sutherland of Brandon and Andrew M. Sutherland and his wife Alice of Brandon. 8 grandchildren and 13 great grand children also survive her.

    The memorial service “In Celebration of Her Life’ was held on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at the Brandon Congregational Church. The Rev. Richard White, pastor officiated.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
