Hayden William “Mike” Wetmore

LEICESTER - Hayden William “Mike” Wetmore, age 91, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

    Mr. Wetmore was born in Brandon on March 17, 1919. He was the son of Charles and Grace (Ryder) Wetmore. He received his education in local Brandon schools. In his earlier years he had worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Vermont and later the 191st. C.C.C. in Colorado building dam projects on Colorado ranches. He afterwards worked construction building bridges. He returned to Vermont and work at Leicester Lime Kiln and Dutton Sawmill. He retired in 1983, as a Diesel Shovel Operator from White Pigment Corp. following 33 years of service.

    Surviving is his wife; Elizabeth “Libby” Wetmore of Leicester, whom he married February 24, 1940 in Forestdale, 3 daughters Donna L. Mills of Rutland, Elizabeth “Tinker” Hallett of Middlebury and Patricia Ferson of Brandon, 1 son Lloyd E. Wetmore of Stockport, Ohio. 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by 3 sisters Martha Chambers, Florence Wetmore and Mary Anne Dorr and 7 brothers Henry, Albert, Floyd, Merrill, George, Robert and Harold Wetmore.

    The funeral service was held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. Mr. Wetmore’s nephew; The Rev. Samuel Morris of Farmington, ME officiated. The graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Robert Edward Ryan

 

EAST MIDDLEBURY - Robert Edward Ryan, age 83, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at his home in East Middlebury.

    Mr. Ryan was born in Whiting on October 12, 1927. He was the son of Robert Leo and Irene (Swenor) Ryan. He received his education in local Whiting schools. He joined the United States Army in April 1946 completed training and was honorable discharged in August 1946 but was recalled during Korea. He served in Korea until his second honorable discharge. He returned home and work driving truck in the Bulk Milk Hauling business for H.P Hood, Holdman Trucking and Gale Parmelee Trucking. He later embarked on a career as a self employed painting contractor, both commercial and residential. He retired in 2000. Mr. Ryan was a life member of Middlebury American Legion Post #27 as well as a life member of Middlebury Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury.
 
    Surviving is his wife Winifred “Winnie” Ryan of East Middlebury; whom he married on August 18, 1979; 6 daughters Marilyn Evans of Ocala, FL, Rebecca Ryan of Essex, Deborah Sheldrick of Salisbury, Marjorie Laughlin of St. Albans, Patricia Shackleford of East Middlebury and Barbara Kallen of Rutland, 2 step-daughters Tamara Tindell of Odessa, FL and Michelle Sharron of Randolph, 2 sons Patrick Ryan of Ocala, FL and Michael Ryan of Middlebury, 3 stepsons; Scott Jarvis of Middlebury, Rick Jarvis of Richmond, VA and Timothy Jarvis of Watertown, NY, 3 sisters Phyllis Quesnel and Judy Mitchell both of Middlebury and Barbara Mazula of Plattsburg, NY, 2 brothers Allen Ryan of Brandon and Clayton Ryan of Shoreham. 25 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by a sister Ida May Quesnel, a brother John Ryan and 3 grandchildren; B.J. Brown, Daniel Johnson and Christopher Ryan.

    A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, February 28, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury. The Rev. William Beaudin, pastor was the celebrant. The graveside committal service and burial, with military honors, will take place, at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
