Ildiko Margaret Ann Polony

BRANDON - Ildiko Margaret Ann Polony, age 69, died Monday, February 7, 2011, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

    Ms: Polony was born in Budapest, Hungary on July 1, 1941. She was the daughter of John Janos and Katalin (Tribolt) Polony. She immigrated to Bavaria; the Black Forest Region; after the war and then came to Kansas City, Missouri in 1951, as part of the Displaced Persons Program. The Westport Presbyterian Church in Kansas City was her sponsor. She attended Junior High School in Cleveland, OH and was graduated from Hobam High School, class of 1959. She received her Bachelors Degree from Douglas College and earned her Masters in Art History from Rutgers University. She came to the Burlington area in 1980 and made her home in South Hero for 20 years. During which time she worked as the Director of The Fleming Museum at the University of Vermont, where she formed and organized the museum and its galleries. She had been a member of the South Hero Rotary Club and the American Association of Museum’s. She has been a Brandon resident since 2001.

    Surviving is 3 daughters; Karyna Heffernan of Mountain Lake, NJ, Cheryl Heffernan of Madison, CT and Alisa Cutter of Brandon, a brother Csaba Polony of Oakland, CA and 1 sister Dalma Grandjean of Kettering, OH. 8 Grandchildren also survive her.

    A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; Addison County Home Health 7 Hospice, P.O. Box 724, Middlebury, VT 05733.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Mary L. (St. Pierre) Estus

Bristol - Mary L. (St. Pierre) Estus, beloved grandmother and loving mother to Barbara L. Prime (Estus) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family after a short illness.

    She was born April 28, 1926 in St. Albans. The daughter of Edward and Charolett (King) St. Pierre.

    In her early years she worked on the farms she and her husband lived on. In the 1950’s the family moved to MA on a farm where they lived for 50 years. She enjoyed her gardens and flower gardens.

    The brightest part of her life where her grandsons Matthew and Daniel, also Jackie, and great granddaughter Lizzy.

    Mary is survived by her daughter, grandsons, Jackie Elizabeth, and her friend Robin.

    She was predeceased by her brothers Ervin & William, her sisters Lila and Rose. She leaves her sisters Betty, Liz, Bea and Doris.

    There will be no service as the request of mom.
Brown-McClay Funeral Home took care of last wishes.

    In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the  National Diabetic Association in your area.
 

Marie Anne “Aunt Honey” Converse

BRANDON - Marie Anne “Aunt Honey” Converse, age 72, died Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

    Mrs. Converse was born in Brandon on February 1, 1939. She was the daughter of Howard and Marie (LaRock) Peer. She received her early education in local Brandon Schools. In her earlier years she had worked at Fellows Gearshaper in Springfield and later at Weyerhaeuser Plywood Manufacturing Co., in Hancock for several years. She enjoyed oil and watercolor painting, old movies, lawn sales and collecting bells, Avon bottles and attending Interage in Brandon. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and reading stories to them.

    Surviving is her son Van Lee Converse of Rutland, a brother Howard Peer of North Hudson, NY and one sister Mary Doleszny of Brattleboro. 3 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur Converse.

    The funeral service was held on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at the Brandon Congregational Church. A family friend; The Rev. Timothy LaFave, pastor of the Free Spirit Fellowship Church in Ballston Spa, NY officiated. Entombment followed the service at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon. A private graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a late date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Brandon.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to: American Cancer Society, Vermont Chapter, 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Maurice Arthur “Moe” LaRock

 

FORESTDALE - Maurice Arthur “Moe” LaRock, age 60, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in White River Jct.

    Mr. LaRock was born in Rutland on March 21, 1950. He was the son of Arnold John and Phyllis (Bishop) LaRock. He grew up in Forestdale and received his early education in local Brandon schools. He was graduated from Otter Valley Union High School, Class of 1968. “Moe” was an accomplished high school athlete and had received a full baseball scholarship to the University of Vermont. College not being his forte he chose the United States Army. He received Ranger training and completed Airborne School in Fort Benning, Ga. He served a tour of duty in Viet Nam. Among his numerous military decorations is the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and Army Commendation Medal. Moe returned home following his Honorable Discharge in 1971 and began a career as a Letter Carrier with the United States Postal Service. He retired in 2005 after 35 years of service. He enjoyed skiing and 4-wheeling. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He belonged to Rutland American Legion Post #31 and Middlebury V.F.W.

    Surviving is his wife Christine O’Brien LaRock of Forestdale; whom he married in Grace Episcopal Church on September 11, 1971, 2 daughters Laura LaRock and Emily LaRock both of Colchester, a sister Pamala Baker of Johnson, 3 brothers A. John LaRock of Pittsford, Ronald LaRock of Forestdale and David LaRock of Benson and his grandson Zachery LaRock. Many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his parents and a granddaughter Cassandra LaRock.

    The funeral service was held on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Grace Episcopal Church in Forestdale. The Rev. Margaret Fletcher, Rector officiated.

    The graveside committal service and burial, with military honors, will take place, at a later date, in the family lot, at Forestdale Cemetery.
