Middlebury McDonalds Now Open

   Vermont Governor Jim Douglas was in his hometown on Thursday afternoon October 28th, 2010, for the Grand Re-opening of the new, state-of-the-art, McDonalds restaurant on Rt. 7 south of the village.  In his remarks the Governor mentioned the importance of the 50 new jobs created by the business and that the new store would be a welcome addition to the Middlebury community.  The Governor also mentioned that McDonalds Corporation has embraced Green Technology in all of its facilities world wide.  Charlie Coughlin the President of Cough Inc. based in Rutland, announced that the new Middlebury McDonalds would donate10-percent of the opening day receipts to the local Mary Hogan School and The Bridge School.

   The first 100 customers received free egg McMuffins once a week for a year.  Over 200 customers responded when the store opened at 7a.m. Hundreds of customers also registered to win an Arctic Cat DVX 300 Sport ATV, the Grand Prize Giveaway, donated by Central Vermont Motorcycles of Rutland.  That drawing will be on November 26, 2010. Pictured above Governor Douglas and Mr. Coughlin cut the official opening ribbon while Cough Inc. Operations Director Sherree Harvey looks on.  Ronald McDonald was also on hand to greet customers later in the afternoon along with other McDonalds officials from through out the northeast.  The Middlebury American Legion Post 27 provided a color guard for the official opening day flag raising ceremony before the ribbon cutting event got underway.
