Solo Pianist Cody Michaels At The Vergennes Opera House

On Friday August 20st the Vergennes Opera House will present acclaimed Vermont musician and composer Cody Michaels in a solo piano performance Michaels will perform selections from his critically acclaimed recordings "A Creation Prayer", "Primum Non Nocere", and "Autumn Suite". Additionally he will be featuring material from his newest release "Winter Suite" released in Fall 2009.

Cody Michaels was introduced to the piano at age three by his jazz pianist father and though classically trained his diverse influences and intuitive approach have fostered a style that defies genre. In 1997, during a long walk on the Appalachian Trail that this former park ranger, trail caretaker, and farm hand who “played piano on the side” decided to devote himself fully to music. Over the next several years, steady practice and numerous appearances in northern New England, western North Carolina, Colorado, and Leipzig, Germany, enabled him to refine his technique, develop his creative voice, and expand his repertoire.

In 2001, Michaels launched a career as a concert artist and released his debut CD of original piano solos, “A Creation Prayer”, to high praise. Three more albums of original compositions have followed: “Primum Non Nocere (2004), “Autumn Suite” (2007) and “Winter Suite” (2009). His unique, passionate musical expressions inspire comparisons to the likes of Beethoven, George Winston, and Keith Jarrett.

Tickets for this 7:30pm performance are on sale now through Classic Stitching on Main Street in Vergennes, and at the Vergennes Opera  House. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for students and seniors. Call 802-877-6737 for more information.
